Carnation Leaders advocate for functional warning system for Seattle's Tolt Dam

In a press release issued on July 11, the City of Carnation urged the City of Seattle to learn from the flood tragedy that occurred in Texas early last month. Here is an excerpt from the release:

In the wake of the tragic Guadalupe River flood in Texas last week, the Carnation community is growing increasingly concerned over the lack of a reliable audible alert system for the Tolt River Dam.

“The Tolt Dam supplies Seattle with $30 million in yearly revenue. The City of Carnation receives no water from the dam, or any revenue,” said Deputy Mayor Ribail “Seattle’s asset poses a significant risk to our community. All we ask is that they mitigate that risk.”

“As a small City, Carnation continues to seek funding from King County, Seattle Public Utilities, and FEMA for emergency evacuation planning,” says Mayor Adair Hawkins “The safety of our residents and visitors is of utmost importance.”

Mayor for a day winner proclaims "Family Day" in the City of Carnation

Presiding Mayor Emmy Colburn proclaimed July 15th as “Family Day” in the City of Carnation to celebrate the many families that make up our community. The City invites residents and neighbors to celebrate with loved ones by spending quality time with one another.

Digital Permitting System Announcement

The City of Carnation is hard at work implementing a new digital permitting system, set to launch later this month. Funded by a Department of Commerce grant, the new system will allow for a more streamlined and efficient application, payment, review and inspection process and allow applicants to track their project's progress online every step of the way.

Our goal is to make the permit application process smoother and more transparent. Please see our website in the coming weeks for the new Permitting Portal and be patient with us as we implement our new system.

Hear Something? Say Something! Care for your Cane

The “Candy Canes” you may notice around town play a very important part in the City's sewer system. They are air terminals that help transport waste.

If you take them out or alter them in any way, this could potentially damage your neighborhood’s sewer system by collapsing the sewer line.

If you hear noises coming from the cane outside your home, or if you notice any damage, please contact the City.

Yard Sign Public Service Announcement

All signs, regardless of content, are prohibited in the City's bioswales per Carnation Municipal Code Chapter 15.68.070. Signs and litter in the bioswales interfere with the functionality of our biofiltration stormwater system. This causes damage to infrastructure and increases the risk of flooding.

If any signs are found in the bioswales, they will be removed by Code Enforcement.
