Hammond Awarded Grant for EV Charging Stations

The City of Hammond is proud to announce it has been awarded funding through the U.S. Department of Energy’s Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) Program to support the installation of new electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at high-traffic city locations.

The grant will fund the deployment of EV charging infrastructure at the Hammond Sportsplex and City Hall, two strategic locations aimed at promoting sustainable transportation and supporting the growing number of electric vehicle users in the community.

“We are excited to take this next step in building a greener future for Hammond,” said Mayor Thomas M. McDermott, Jr. “This grant allows us to make real progress on sustainability while making EV adoption more accessible for our residents and visitors.”

How long have you been a Drive Clean Indiana Board Member?

I've been a DCI Board Member for seven years.

Why did you join the DCI Board?

I joined the DCI Board to work closely with other stakeholders within the transportation industry to help educate them on the impact of design criteria and code requirements for facility infrastructure improvements associated with the transition to alternative fuel vehicles.

What is your role/contribution to the coalition as a DCI Board Member?

I currently serve on the Executive Board as Treasurer, and I also serve on the Policy & Legislative Committee.

What DCI event do you enjoy the most?

I always enjoy the golf outing. It's a great opportunity to spend time with clients, colleagues, and friends in a relaxing atmosphere.

Get to Know Greg:

What is something not many people know about you?

I advanced to the finale of a Rubik's Cube competition when I was 9 years old. During the competition, I solved it in under 30 seconds.

How do you spend your time outside of work?

I practice and play golf almost daily, and I travel frequently with family.

Coffee or tea?

Neither. I drink a lot of water daily!

What's a movie or TV show you've watched recently that you'd recommend?

Nothing recently that comes to mind, but I'm always open to a compelling action/adventure movie or series.

What is something you're looking forward to?

Our firm has recently diversified beyond engineering and consulting services into the design-build space. We are near completion of our first major project, and I'm looking forward to pursuing additional similar opportunities as we grow from this project experience.

Professional Questions

What unique skills or expertise do you bring to the table that benefit the DCI team?

With a background in developing cross-sector partnerships, from municipality and fleet operators to utility companies, I excel at building stages that move infrastructure projects forward. My analytical mindset also helps in identifying new opportunities and tailoring solutions that align with both environmental goals and real-world operations.

What drew you to this field, and how did you get started?

I was drawn to this field because of its intersection with sustainability, technology, and public impact. My interest started with working on a transportation electrification project in Dubai. The more I saw how clean transportation could improve air quality and reduce costs, the more committed I became to this mission.

What is your favorite aspect of our company culture?

My favorite part of DCI's culture is how solution-oriented and collaborative our team is. During a recent statewide roadshow, everyone -from leadership to interns- pitched in to make it successful. We move fast, we help one another, and we all stay focused on making an impact, not just checking boxes.

What does DCI's mission mean to you?

To me, the mission represents more than clean transportation and energy solutions. DCI's mission puts people first and invests in their futures. Being part of DCI means I get to be part of the solution in helping others, improving lives, and developing long-term projects.

What's your favorite thing to cook (or order out)?

My favorite thing to bake is chocolate zucchini bread.

Every day that you wake up, you have a new job. To be better than yesterday.

I have lived in four different countries in the last 10 years.

What's one item on your bucket list?

I would love to go on a tiger safari in India one day.

July Highlighted Fuel

Propane, also known as liquefied petroleum gas (LPG or LP-gas) or autogas, has been used worldwide as a vehicle fuel for decades. Stored under pressure inside a tank, propane turns into a colorless, odorless liquid. As pressure is released, the liquid propane vaporizes and turns into gas that is used for combustion. An odorant, ethyl mercaptan, is added for leak detection.

The development of new, light- and medium-duty propane vehicles has surged in recent years for fleet use. Propane vehicles can either be conversions from gasoline vehicles or purchased from original equipment manufacturers.

Convert Your Fleet to Propane Autogas Without Buying New Vehicles

"Fleet owners looking to upgrade to a clean energy source don’t have to wait until they’re ready to invest in new vehicles to reduce their emissions. EPA-certified bi-fuel conversion kits can be installed on gasoline-powered vehicles to allow a driver to operate a vehicle with both propane autogas or gasoline."
