Individual Artist Fellowship Application Deadline Approaching on August 3!

The Fiscal Year 2027 Artist Fellowship application is now open in smARTDE. Awards are $5,000 for Emerging; $8,000 for Established; and $12,000 for Masters. The deadline for applications is August 3, 2026.

In Fiscal Year 2027, Masters ($12,000 award) Fellowship applications will be accepted in the disciplines of Dance (Choreography), Jazz, and Music from artists who received an Established Professional Fellowship in the same artistic discipline more than seven years ago (prior to January 2019).

Individual Artist Fellowships are awarded for artistic quality to Delaware creative artists working in the visual, performing, media, folk, and literary arts. Due to high numbers of applications and limited funds, the program is highly competitive. Fellowships are designed to enable recipients to purchase equipment and materials, allocate working time, or fulfill other needs that will allow them to advance their careers (excluding foreign travel and lobbying). Fellowship recipients are required to present examples of their work to the public during their Fellowship year.

Delaware and Wilmington Named Among Nation’s Most Arts-Vibrant by SMU DataArts

SMU DataArts, the National Center for Arts Research, released its 10th annual Arts Vibrancy Index, which ranks Delaware 11th in the nation for arts vibrancy among the 50 states and recognizes Wilmington as #57 on its expanded list of the 100 most arts-vibrant communities in the United States. The rankings are based on a data-driven approach that analyzes the level of supply, demand, and government support for the arts using data available in more than 900 communities across the country.

The People’s Gallery Call for Artists

This summer, the Delaware Art Museum invites artists to participate in The People’s Gallery, a community-driven exhibition celebrating creativity across Delaware.

In celebration of the nation’s 250th birthday, they are honoring the vital role artists play in helping us interpret our past, understand our present, and push us to collectively imagine new futures. This exhibition will showcase up to 600 artists, each contributing one work of art. This is a non-juried exhibition, offering an inclusive opportunity for artists of all backgrounds and experience levels to share their work.

All accepted artwork will be exhibited in the Museum’s Fusco Gallery and made available for purchase through the Museum Store.

On the Mezzanine

Juan Santos' Becoming

The Delaware Division of the Arts’ Mezzanine Gallery is pleased to present Becoming, a solo exhibition of new work by Juan Santos, on view July 10 – 31, 2026.

Becoming explores the emotional and psychological process of identity formation through memory, family, relationships, and time. Across paintings, drawings, and mixed media works, Santos investigates how support systems and firsthand experiences shape who we are at different stages of life. The work draws on childhood wonder and present-day reflection alike, tracing the curiosity and discovery that accompany growth.

Through layered textures, gestural marks, and repetitive circular forms, Santos builds a sense of movement that mirrors transformation and emotion. The materials themselves become part of the conversation, with spontaneity and experimentation guiding the process. The resulting works feel at once personal and universal, inviting viewers to reflect on their own sense of purpose, connection, and becoming.
