Dwyer Scholar Frednisha Hill spoke with Texas news station KBTX to share her story about how DWD changed her life as a working mother of two. “I was at my lowest trying to figure out how I am going to get to the next day or make it happen.” 



DWD's support and guidance helped her balance the demands of motherhood with pursuing her studies. Since graduating, she has been working as a full-time CNA at the Brenham Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Brenham, Texas.

TEXAS GRADUATIONS

DWD & Touchstone Communities Celebrate July Graduations

As healthcare workforce shortages continue across Texas, DWD and Touchstone Communities are working together to strengthen the healthcare pipeline. This July, graduations in Gonzales and San Antonio, Texas, honored 14 Dwyer Scholars who completed the extensive Nursing Assistant in Training (NAIT) programs. Southern Careers Institute Brownsville Graduation

Another Texas graduation took place on July 10 at Southern Careers Institute Brownsville, celebrating eight Scholars who successfully completed the NAIT program. Congrats to our graduates and stay tuned for more to come!

MARYLAND GRADUATION

Northwest Hospital Graduation in Baltimore 

On July 29, nine Scholars graduated from Northwest Hospital in Baltimore County. With program sponsorship through the Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC), the Scholars began training in April and will directly transition into employment at the hospital following graduation. Northwest Hospital President and COO Craig Carmichael (pictured left) also stopped by to congratulate and welcome Scholars to the new workforce!

New Non-Profit Partnership

AltaCair Foundation

Rio Grande Valley & South Texas 

This new partnership with AltaCair Foundation, a philanthropic organization serving communities throughout the Rio Grande Valley and South Texas, will expand opportunities for workforce development collaboration, community engagement, healthcare career pathways, and supportive services for Scholars and the communities we serve.

New Vendor Partnership

Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA)

Pennsylvania 

DWD is excited to announce this new partnership with SEPTA to provide Scholars across southeast Pennsylvania and surrounding areas with access to seamless travel. SEPTA operates buses, trolleys, regional rail trains and a subway system that serves the city of Philadelphia, surrounding counties, and neighboring regions of New Jersey. This will greatly benefit transportation support services for Scholars across the state.

Maris Grove of Erickson Senior Living

Pennsylvania 

Maris Grove of Erickson Senior Living in Pennsylvania is joining DWD’s growing network of employer partners committed to creating meaningful career opportunities for Dwyer Scholars. This partnership represents another important milestone in expanding DWD's employer network in Pennsylvania, creating additional employment opportunities for Scholars and helping address workforce needs within the healthcare industry.

McAllen Transitional Care Center

Rio Grande Valley & South Texas

McAllen Transitional Care Center is a skilled nursing facility committed to supporting growth and development of healthcare professionals. This partnership expands training and job placement opportunities for Scholars throughout the Rio Grande Valley while continuing to strengthen DWD's growing employer network in South Texas. 

New States Means New Partnerships & Possibilities

Genesis HealthCare

West Virginia

As DWD expands into West Virginia, this new partnership will grow opportunities and support services for Scholars. Genesis recently launched a new CNA training program at their Shenandoah Center in Charles Town, a skilled nursing facility offering post-hospital, short-term rehabilitation as well as long-term and respite care. This marks another exciting milestone as DWD continues to expand efforts in this region.

CommuniCare

West Virginia & Ohio

CommuniCare is a family-owned healthcare service company with skilled nursing facilities in regional clusters stretching across Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio, and Indiana. DWD’s growing partnership will expand training programs and support services to strengthen the new presence across West Virginia and Ohio.

DWD Employees Drive Community Impact 

Melanice Aiken, DWD project management analyst, hosted an event at Dent Education in Baltimore, Maryland, to bring together community members for meaningful cultural conversations.



After successfully completing the Baltimore chapter of the Rekindle Fellowship program, Melanice was awarded a grant and partnered with Dent Education CEO Micky Wolf to organize a community dinner and panel discussion designed to foster dialogue between Black and Jewish communities. The program was facilitated by nonprofits including The Associated: Jewish Federation of Baltimore and The Elijah Cummings Youth Program in Israel. The panel featured DWD’s very own Community Liaison Rosalind Ambrose who shared wisdom and powerful stories. Events like this help break down barriers and connect communities.
