Seeking Non-Scientist
IRB Members
The non-scientist member is vital! Research review cannot proceed without a non-scientist IRB member present. This member’s primary role is to ensure that research materials are readable and that participants will understand what they are volunteering for.
Examples of individuals who would typically qualify as a “non-scientist” member (depending on education background and past career experience) include:
- barbers/hairdressers
- law enforcement individuals/officers
- firefighters
- lawyers
- accountants/financial advisors
- pastors/priests
- administrative services personnel/staff members
- auto mechanics
See or share the Non-scientist Member Brochure for the non-scientist member's requirements and role on the IRB.
Interested persons may contact Pam Stafford for more information (859-323-7399 or pastaf3@uky.edu).
