+ Teri's Treks
It’s been a month of small house projects, stepping up my running to be ready for the Nationwide Children’s Hospital ½ Marathon in October, and outdoor activities. We also took a short trip to see Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater House in PA before a gathering with the Alexander side of the family. They have done some extensive work on this historic landmark since the last time I was there, and it is never enough time to spend time with family. We truly try to make the most of it when we get together. Choir practices begin this week after taking the summer off, and all my grandchildren have their first days of school this week.

+ Nathan's Notes
August has been a (mostly) fun month at our house. We started with a quick trip down to North Carolina for a wedding. It was great to reconnect with members of her family, some of whom we had not seen in a number of years. We also went to Old Man’s Cave for the first time in several years. Hiking from the Upper to the Lower falls was very pleasant, and scenery is always beautiful. We also went to King’s Island for the first time in a few years. I really think you can mark how old you are getting by how your body reacts to riding on roller coasters. Ellie loves all roller coasters and any other ride that goes fast and/or upside down. I went on as many with her as I could, but my roller coaster limit is definitely getting lower by the year. Throw in a surprise root canal in the middle of all that, and we’ve had a busy month so far. Now, we’re looking forward to school beginning this week as Ellie begins 8th grade, and Ainsley begins 2nd.

Some but not all vacation wishes came true. We did escape the heat and humidity, deciding on the UP of Michigan as our destination. The day after we left home, the Canadian wildfire smoke moved in. We didn’t see the Milky Way or the Northern Lights but did enjoy waterfalls, lighthouses, a visit with friends, and a sunset over Lake Superior.

I haven’t been up to anything too exciting this month, although my husband and I finally succeeded in removing a large beehive from right outside our garage. As you can imagine, that was quite an adventure!
I am also pretty excited about a few new additions to my indoor plant collection. I already have a very large collection, but there’s always room for more. 😉 The two I am most excited about are a Monstera White Monster and a variegated Philodendron giganteum.

This may look like Tic-Tac-Toe, but it’s actually the year-to-date rates of return in U.S. equity markets through July 31st, 2026, broken down by company size and investment approach. The style box is a tool created by Morningstar and is now a staple in investing, helping to visually communicate what is happening in different areas of the stock market. What is interesting is the significant shift in returns from growth to value this year. In the past few years, large-cap growth has significantly outperformed all other style boxes. Additionally, through July 31st, value has outperformed growth across all capitalizations (large, medium, and small). Lastly, small-cap companies across all three styles are currently outperforming large- and medium-cap companies. This is an interesting shift, reflecting broader market participation than in the past few years and the importance of using an asset allocation approach to investing.
