HYI had some special visitors earlier this month as 12 T-6 aircraft from Randolph Air Force Base arrived at San Marcos Regional Airport.

The visit took place in partnership with the Commemorative Air Force and gave military training pilots from US Aviation the opportunity to hear from and connect with experienced military aviators.

We’re always proud to support military training activity at HYI, and visits like this are a great reminder of the important role our airport plays in the broader aviation and training community.

San Marcos Regional Airport was proud to host the inaugural Texas A&M Transportation Institute (TTI)/TxDOT Aviation Pavement Management Training Course on June 3 and 4.

The new course was developed to help airport sponsors and operations staff better understand pavement management, including pavement design, structures, basic repair, and regulatory considerations. Attendees included TxDOT Aviation staff and airport managers from across the state.

We were happy to welcome our fellow airport professionals to HYI and support an opportunity for continued education, collaboration, and shared best practices. Pavement management is an important part of maintaining safe and reliable airport infrastructure, and we were glad to play a small role in helping launch this new training program.

Summer weather often brings an increase in wildlife activity around the airport. We have had more sightings of rattlesnakes, jackrabbits, coyotes, hawks, and other birds on and around airport property.

Please stay alert while driving, walking, or working near hangars, ramps, and grassy areas. Wildlife can move quickly and may be difficult to see, especially near roads, fence lines, and undeveloped areas.

Safety is always our priority. If you bring a dog to the airport, please make sure it is on a leash at all times. Keeping pets secured helps protect them, protects wildlife, and helps keep the airfield environment safe for everyone.
