The official 250th birthday of the United States (the "Semiquincentennial") is July 4, 2026. This milestone marks exactly two and a half centuries since the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia in 1776. The staff of RUNOHIO would like to wish you and your family a happy, healthy and safe 4th of July. | |
2026 FIFA World Cup
As the United States hosts the 2026 FIFA World Cup fans from dozens of countries are sharing videos raving about the warm hospitality they’ve experienced during their time here. These experiences span the entire U.S., from big coastal cities to small Midwestern towns, and the words people use to describe the Americans they’ve encountered are remarkably consistent: kind, nice, friendly, warm, and welcoming.
Visitors are going viral documenting their enthusiasm for distinctly American experiences — from Waffle House and Buc-ee's to college football and Southern hospitality, hot dogs and ranch dressing.
Many visitors seem genuinely surprised to see firsthand what America is really like, detached from media-driven stereotypes and politically pushed narratives. They’re not seeing the U.S. portrayed on the news. They’re seeing our melting pot of people in their everyday lives, our spirit of open-armed welcome that has long defined our nation, and our unabashed love of celebration.

On the Run with Matt McGowan
Congratulations to the athletes who competed in the OHSAA Cross Country Championships as well as the various National Championships. Several pictures from the OHSAA Cross Country Championships are in this issue. This year the OHSAA added a fourth division for both boys and girls resulting in several new schools and runners competing and winning awards in the State Cross Country Championship compared to when there were only three divisions for each.

As of April 2026, the OHSAA (Ohio High School Athletic Association) has updated its policy to comply with Ohio law, specifically HB 68, which generally prohibits transgender females from competing on girls' sports teams. While the previous policy allowed for specific medical, case-by-case approvals, the new state law overrides this, restricting team participation based on biological sex.
