Hello Soroptimist Sisters,

During these times it is more important than ever to remind ourselves about the importance of gratitude and self-care. I am grateful to have all of you in my life! COVID-19 may have us saying hi and sharing a hug from 6 feet apart but air hugs are good for us too! I enjoy seeing members at our socially distant lunches in the park and backyard morning coffees. Thank you to Carol and Roger for providing us with the delicious muffins and for hosting our morning coffee in their beautiful backyard.

Our club won’t be volunteering at the Home and Garden Show this year due to the rising number of Coronavirus cases in Butte County. Thanks to the COVID-19, we are all learning to be flexible when it comes to scheduling events.

Thank you to everyone who filled out the Survey Monkey for attending the Summer BBQ and Installation. The survey results showed we have many members who are looking forward to attending this event. I myself, as well as our incoming Board Members, are looking forward to having an installation with our club. Our club’s summer BBQ is a tradition we all look forward to every year. It’s a way to come together to kick off our new Club year. This will be the first time we have had to do the installation at the summer BBQ but that is all part of this ever changing situation with the Coronavirus. We will continue to monitor the ever changing COVID rules and regulations and keep you updated on all our upcoming events. I appreciate everyone’s willingness to adapt to the constant change happening around us.

Stay safe, stay well, stay grateful, and remember, we are all in this together.

With much gratitude,

President Billie
Soroptimist History with Patricia Cockcroft
Please join us for a fun evening on Zoom. We will be hearing about Soroptimist from one of our fabulous Soroptimist Life Members. Our club is blessed to have Patricia Cockcroft share her memories and experiences as a member of SIA for the last 68 years. Patricia joined in 1952 and has many wonderful stories to share, so grab your favorite beverage and join us for some fun social time. There will be adequate time to ask Patricia questions after she shares, if there’s a question you have been wanting to ask her, now is the time.

This is sure to be fun and informative so mark your calendars for Thursday, July 30th at 5 PM.

Governor Sarah's Message from SNR's July 15th E-blast
Hello to all,

The words that will be at the front of my mind for the next year will be "persistence and adaptability". We are in a fluid situation. We receive numerous directives from our States, which limits what we can or cannot do. No worries, each of us has it within us to ride the bumpy roads and keep moving forward.

Talk about adapting, the Region leaders are getting their materials ready and their technology in order to provide members with tons of information. See article below by SDR Coordinator Maureen.

Reminder, SIA’s 46 th Annual Convention will be virtual and begins on July 22, 2020. There are two live sessions that requires registration by July 15th. NextGen Voices: A Younger Soroptimist Panel Discussion (this presentation is in response to clubs telling SIA that they want to engage younger members), webinar is on July 23, 2020 at 7 pm Eastern Time. Here's the  registration link . Then on July 24 th at 6 pm Eastern Time, there is Membership Engagement (how to create inclusive and engaging member experience in our local clubs). Here's that  registration link.

Save the Date : SIA’s 47 th  Biennial Convention will be in Seoul, Korea on July 20 – 23, 2022. Please take this opportunity to plan for the convention fee in your Club Budget.
SI President Sharon Fisher President’s Appeal is focused on the Road to Equality and the work being done at the United Nations. The President’s Appeal Pin “Road to Equality” is being sold by SI Newport Harbor Area in California. Information on purchasing the pin,  click here .

We are still waiting to see whether our communities are going to be in a position for us to hold in person District Meetings. Please be patient and please note it is likely that notice of the meetings will be less that the 45 days provided in the Region’s Governing documents, we are in a fluid situation and are adapting. Let’s keep our fingers crossed, we want to meet in person.

Be safe and keep yourself amused.

Governor Sarah
Message from SDR Coordinator –
SOROPTIMIST DEVELOPMENT VIRTUAL RETREAT COMING SOON!

This year we are planning online workshops that will be in video, PowerPoint or zoom formats for our retreat. Sessions will include information for incoming club officers (President/President-Elect, Treasurer and Secretary), the Soroptimist Dream Programs, best practices and an update on Human Trafficking to name a few. A few sessions and the district director meetings will be held on zoom so members can interact with the presenter and other participants.  The other sessions will be videos and/or PowerPoints that members can view at their leisure.

All sessions, handouts and evaluation forms will be placed on the region website in a manner similar to what we used for conference. Our target date for the virtual SDR to go live is the last week of July.

Even though we cannot be together for our development retreat we can be together in learning through our virtual program. This is an opportunity for every member in the region to ‘attend’ SDR and we cordially invite you all to find out what our volunteer presenters, region officers, district directors and program chairs have to share with us. Get comfortable, get curious and see how dreaming, learning, and doing can lead to the best Soroptimist experience yet!

More information to follow as we get closer to launching our event.

Sincerely,

Maureen Mason

Summer Socializing with SI Chico

Hello Soropti-sisters!

We are going to shake up our usual practice of summertime drop-in lunches in light of COVID-19 and hope that we can still socialize through the months of July and August comfortably. As you may know, we usually alternate through the list of member owned restaurants each Wednesday at noon through the summer, allowing members who are inclined and available to meet up with others and enjoy lunch while supporting our member's businesses. With social distancing and varying levels of comfort with dine-in, we decided to change this plan for summer 2020.

We will alternate take-out lunches and meeting at local parks with backyard morning coffee gatherings. ( Summer schedule below)

See you all this summer

SI Objectives
Backyard morning coffee:  Some of our members have offered their backyards for these (socially distanced) morning gatherings. Please plan to bring your own coffee (or other beverage) and a chair. Enter directly to each member's backyard. It will be great to hang out together. (9:00 a.m.)

July 1 – Coffee @ 9:00, Bonnie Chapman’s backyard

July 15 – Coffee @ 9:00, Carol Burr’s backyard

August 5 – Coffee @ 9:00, Jeanne Smith’s backyard

August 19 – Coffee @9:00 Carrie Pavis’s backyard
Take-out lunches:  Our schedule will list the " suggested " take-out restaurant for each of these and then designate a shade covered picnic area in one of our parks for the lunchtime meet-up. Brown bagging is always an option. (noon)

July 8 – La Comida – Pick up lunch and eat at Wildwood Park

July 22 - Spiteri - Pick up lunch and eat at Wildwood Park**

July 29 – SOL – Pick up lunch and eat at DeGarmo Park

August 12 – Cozy Diner – Pick up lunch and eat at Wildwood Park**

August 26 – La Hacienda – Pick up lunch and eat at DeGarmo Park

**Note: At Wildwood Park we will meet on the South side of the park in the grass under the shade trees, away from the pavilion & playground equipment - bring your own chair.

This year's Home & Garden Show is planning to proceed, however, due to the Coronavirus cases increasing in Butte County, SI Chico will forgo working the ticket booths, front entrance and SI information table for this year. Thank you for signing up but our participation in the show will no longer be needed.
