News from New York City Presbytery's Transitional Leader

Remembering Rev. Dr. Robert Foltz-Morrison

Saturday, July 25, 2026, we will give thanks and praise to God for the life and leadership of Bob Foltz-Morrison. His legacy will live long in the hearts and minds of all of us who knew and loved him. Bob was thoughtful, caring, brilliant, and committed to our Lord and to his family. He served with the end result in mind, which was always to benefit the Presbytery of New York City and to give honor and glory to Jesus Christ. Click here for the service details.

I look forward to seeing all of you at the Broadway Presbyterian Church this Saturday at 11:00 am. God be with you.

The Case for Re-envisioning/Re-Imaging Making Change Real

As our presbytery continues to move toward the major act of re-envisioning/re-imagining/restructuring, the Task Force charged with this work will continue its meetings and strategic plans. This Task Force has been working hard to develop a new mission statement, a new vision statement, and to re-imagine committee make-up, size, and mission. Thank you, Re-envisioning/re-imagining Task Force. Your commitment is appreciated and valued.

When restructuring/re-envisioning is needed for a presbytery, it fits well during the transitional period and provides an excellent entrée for the new, installed executive. The work during the transitional period is essential so that a presbytery welcomes a new installed person who can move the presbytery forward. That does not mean that some tweaks and additional work will not be completed. It DOES mean that the installed exec will find a healthier, more progressive presbytery that will serve our Lord and Savior more effectively.

The health and well-being of our presbytery depend upon all of us working together, sharing ideas and thoughts, and approving a plan in which we have confidence. There are several steps, but in the end, the plan for a healthy, vital, thriving presbytery begins with believing in the need for and the plan for change and transformation. Let us pray for the changes that are needed.

You are encouraged to review the summary of the proposal for restructuring prepared and composed by Rev. Thia Reggio and the PowerPoint presentation that was prepared and designed by Elder Zayn Silva. Study these documents with great interest and commitment.

Share your thoughts and responses to these documents. We are headed in a good direction. All comments and feedback are welcome.

First Presbyterian Church of Forest Hills

If someone is hungry, there is a new place to go — the First Presbyterian Church of Forest Hills’ food pantry, which will soon be stocked with fruits and vegetables from its community garden.

The church, located at 70-35 112 St., collaborated with Central Queens Mutual Aid, an all-volunteer organization, to create the garden. Tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, strawberries and herbs are all growing there.

“CQMA had been setting out non-perishable food items in the little food pantry of FPCFH, which itself began towards the end of the COVID pandemic to address the needs of food-insecure people,” the Rev. Jeff Courter, the church’s pastor, told the Chronicle via email. “CQMA had been faithfully filling the pantry since last year and thought a community garden would be a good way to produce food for those who could use it.” Read more
