Marin County Covid Update
Marin County Public Health has reported the first COVID-19 death of a county resident since mid-May. The resident had not been vaccinated against COVID-19 and died Wednesday, July 21, after being admitted to a hospital with respiratory symptoms.
The fatality was the 186th in Marin during the pandemic. All Marin County residents who have died from COVID-19 have been unvaccinated. No other identifying information will be released by Marin County Public Health.
“It’s especially hard to see people dying from COVID-19 when we know how preventable it is,” said Dr. Matt Willis, Marin County Public Health Officer. “This latest death has two lessons for us,” Willis said. “The first is how good the Delta variant is at finding unvaccinated people, and the second is that unvaccinated people lack protection against severe illness and death.”
Health officials urge people of all ages to get vaccinated, not just for their own health but for the health of those around them. The Marin County Public Health website GetVaccinatedMarin.org includes a list of pop-up vaccination clinics at locations throughout the county. The Marin County Department of Health and Human Services’ COVID-19 website is updated regularly with the latest localized and statewide information about the virus.

Climate Action Committee Update
At the July 7th Town Council meeting, Fairfax adopted the Climate Action Plan. It looks to ways we can reach our town’s goal of getting to zero emissions by 2030. We have exceeded some goals in emissions, but that was due in large part to everyone being defaulted to MCE regular service as their energy provider so that their utilities are sourced by 60% by wind and solar. To further decrease your utility footprint, we ask you to sign up for 100% renewables through MCE Deep Green. Sign up here - it is super easy and takes less than five minutes.

You can pick up your FREE Evacuation Tags at the Fairfax Police Department
The Fairfax Police Department in partnership with the Ross Valley Fire Department is giving away evacuation tags to residents living in the Town of Fairfax, Marin County, California. Evacuation tags are a new tool to help us more quickly ensure that neighborhoods are evacuated during a disaster. Residents affix the tag in a location that is highly visible when they evacuate (mailbox, front door, garage, end of your driveway).
This saves time because first responders don’t have to utilize our own ribbon on the property and we can immediately check the next home. We’ve learned that seconds can count during evacuations and we are excited to bring this new time-saving tool to our residents. Each tag comes with a bilingual instruction flyer, too.
Read more about how Evacuation Tags work here.
