Heroes to Heroes @ UUMC

As we head towards our "Heroes Hotline" Vacation Bible School beginning July 17th, our UUMC Worship Series will also look at Heroes of the Faith, including Deborah, Rahab, Lydia, and Esther!

Heroes do not just belong in comic books and blockbuster movies. We have them in real life too – people whose courage, strength, and resilience we can look up to as models for our own lives. In this summer series, we will meet four outstanding heroes from our faith story. Their readiness to listen to God’s voice in their lives and act on it inspires us to do the same.

At Hero Hotline VBS, children will enjoy an interactive, energizing, Bible-based good time as they are called together to serve God by following Jesus, helping others, working together, showing grace, and listening to God. They will become Heroes and discover that answering God’s call together means striving for the things that bring peace and the things that build each other up!

After a high-energy Opening Assembly time, the Heroes make their way to the various stations of fun activities (Bible Stories, Crafts, Music, Recreation, Science, and Snack).

Kids 5 years and up can come for the fun! Registration is required and limited.

Gift from Pacifica Institute on Eid-al-Adha

As our Muslim siblings celebrate Eid-al-Adha, commemorating the dedication of Abraham and the survival of Ishmael (their holy texts say it was Ishmael that Abraham was called to sacrifice rather than Isaac), they share with us a gift.

This holiday is about sacrifice, and they share meat with friends and those in need. As community partners, we are their friends.

Representatives from the Pacifica Institute will be at church after worship on Sunday, July 2nd with boxes of frozen beef (ground and chunk) to share with us.

What Happened in KidJam

June 25, 2023

During their time in the wilderness, the Israelites were faced with a challenging test of faith. They grumbled and complained when they stumbled upon bitter and undrinkable water, even though they had previously witnessed the miraculous crossing of the Red Sea. However, God, who is always faithful, once again demonstrated His unwavering provision.

Let us also experience how God can transform bitterness into sweetness in our lives.

We had a great time experimenting with the popsicle stick explosion and playing the thrilling coin-catching game!

SAVE THE DATE - 3rd Quarterly Conference on Monday, August 28th at 7 pm

Families Forward is an Irvine-based nonprofit organization that was founded in

1984 to help families in crisis achieve and maintain financial stability and self-

sufficiency through housing, food, counseling, education, and other support

services.

Our church has a special connection with Families Forward, which is one of Irvine’s best

outreach organizations for families seeking self-reliance and success. UUMC members

are or have been on staff and on the board. Among us are major donors and consistent,

committed volunteers.

At our last Families Forward Food Drive, we collected 7 barrels of food and $150 in

cash and checks. We also collected food for Families Forward at Thanksgiving and at

special church events, and we sponsored families for Christmas.

It’s fun and easy to get involved with Families Forward.

Typical volunteer jobs may

include:

Office Assistance

Food Pantry Volunteer

Food Pantry Driver

Bilingual English-Spanish Volunteer

Families Forward also has a great need for volunteers during the holiday season and for

special events throughout the year.

All Families Forward volunteers report directly to Families Forward, and Families Forward will train

volunteers. Currently, we have a UUMC team that volunteers on Mondays from 9:30 – 12.

If someone is interested in volunteering, they may contact either Karen Rhoads or Marge Anderson,

or they may contact Families Forward directly.

Karen’s role as Families Forward

Liaison is to communicate between UUMC and Families Forward, according to their needs.

Your support of Families Forward will help change a child’s life and create hope for a brighter

future.

Prayer Wall

UUMC now has a prayer wall in our Sanctuary and is available for your prayer requests (private, to God only: gray slips of paper; and for pastoral consideration with option to forward to prayer chain: ivory slips of paper).

This large prayer wall frame is currently in the left front of the sanctuary, near the cross, and will ultimately be permanently affixed to the back left wall after Easter(tide).

Please feel free to utilize the wall before service, during the meditative music, or after service.

Or, you can contact Michael Demeure of UUMC for more detailed information:

UUMC MEMBERS IN ACTION

TRACKING VOLUNTEER HOURS

Being the Church is not something that just happens on Sunday mornings for about an hour, but it is a way of life. Discipleship is the journey of living not solely for self, but out of love for God and neighbor. As the many members of Christ's body, the Church, we are invited to be "all in," committing our prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness.

The many hours we spend in service to God at the local church and throughout the community on an individual level is impressive; yet, our collective efforts reach even farther and reflect the true vitality of our Church.

Beginning in 2022, we will be tracking volunteer hours done at church and in the community on a monthly basis. These hours will be reported to the Conference in our annual report, and we want to be able to celebrate the collective impact our church has in making the world a better place.

Prizes will be offered at our Quarterly Conferences to individuals who have submitted their hours and guess closest to the number of hours of service given in total by our UUMC members!

Allow your work to be counted collectively by filling out our tracking sheet TODAY!

(Volunteer hours at church include those in the office, counting, ushering, greeting, singing, decorating, cleaning, painting, teaching, serving on committees, calling our members, etc. Volunteers hours in the community include all those given to organizations supporting needs or helping individuals in the community.)

Click on the link below and submit it once you have filled it out. Thank you!
