Grizzly Peak Boulevard
to Close July 4th in Coordinated Multi-Agency Fire Safety Operation
Contra Costa County Public Works Department and regional partners will close Grizzly Peak Bl. between Skyline Bl. and Claremont Ave./Fish Ranch Rd., as well as the intersection of Lomas Contadas and Grizzly Peak Bl. from 4 AM on July 4th through 5 AM on July 5th.
The temporary closure is to protect public safety, reduce wildfire risk, and ensure emergency vehicles can access the area during the busy Independence Day holiday. Dry conditions, high fire danger, and the use of illegal fireworks make the Oakland Hills and surrounding communities especially vulnerable this time of year.
Residents are reminded that all fireworks are illegal in this area. Community members are encouraged to enjoy professional fireworks shows instead.
Fireworks are illegal throughout Contra Costa County. To report illegal fireworks call (833) 885-2021. In Oakland, call the Fireworks Tip Line at (510) 777-8814.

Turning Surplus Fruit into Community Good
Every year, thousands of pounds of perfectly good fruit ripen on backyard trees across Contra Costa County, only to fall to the ground and go to waste. ForestR's Contra Costa Fruit Rescue program is changing that, one harvest at a time.
Working with homeowners and volunteers, the nonprofit organizes "fruit rescue" events where surplus fruit is harvested from residential trees and donated to local food banks, shelters, and community organizations. The program helps reduce food waste while providing fresh, healthy produce to neighbors experiencing food insecurity.
If you have more fruit than you can use, ForestR's trained volunteers will harvest it at no cost. Homeowners enjoy cleaner yards and less fallen fruit, volunteers spend time outdoors making a difference, and local families receive fresh, locally grown produce that might otherwise never reach their tables.
Whether you have a fruit tree to share or a few hours to volunteer during harvest season, there are many ways to get involved. Together, small acts of generosity can keep nutritious food out of landfills and in the hands of those who need it most, a win for people, neighborhoods, and the environment.
