FY 27 Budget Unveiling Press Conference

Yesterday, July 30th, at 4 pm, the city posted a livestream of the Budget Unveiling Press Conference on multiple platforms. Unfortunately, due to technical issues involving inadequate bandwidth, the video was unwatchable. A clean recording of the hour and twelve minute livestream can now be viewed at this link. Great Response from LACFCD

The Los Angeles County Flood Control District responded quickly to a request we submitted last week. Mid-afternoon on Tuesday, 7/21, we informed them that the open channel (aka Bouton Creek) that runs along Clark Ave. was looking and smelling pretty foul. It was likely the result of some very warm weather. The next morning, 7/22, we received a response that they would be out there that day! Pretty amazing considering the effort it takes to clean the channel. A large crane (see attached photo) is needed to lower a skid steer loader into the channel for cleaning. The following day, Thursday, 7/23, the job was completed (see attached before and after photos). Thank you, LACFCD for the quick response and a job well done! The residents along Clark Ave. between Stearns Street and the 405 Frwy are greatly appreciative.

Community Meeting Recap

We had a capacity crowd at our CD4 community meeting on Tuesday at the Los Altos Library. Thanks to all who attended the meet & greet for CSULB President, Loren Blanchard. The second half of the meeting featured City Clerk, Monique De La Garza, who had a presentation on the implementation of remote public comment at city council meetings. Thanks to both of our guest speakers for outstanding presentations.

City Prosecutor Intern Event at Mooney's

Thank you to City Prosecutor, Doug Haubert, for inviting me to speak Thursday night at his intern appreciation dinner held in CD4 at Mooney’s Pizza Tavern. LA County Sheriff (and former LB Police Chief) Robert Luna also spoke to the interns who have worked in the City Prosecutor’s office. Rehabilitation of Alamitos Tanks

Advanced Industrial Services, Inc. will be rehabilitating two water tanks at the Alamitos Reservoir. The work will include interior blast cleaning and recoating, exterior spot painting, piping replacement, cathodic protection, structural repairs, and site drainage modifications. BTG FREE Youth Tennis Play Day

Live Burns at the Long Beach Airport

The Long Beach Fire Department will be conducting a scheduled Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) live-fire training exercise at the Long Beach Airport on Monday, August 3rd, Tuesday, August 4th and Wednesday, August 5th. Training will take place between approximately 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. each day near the 36th Street Gate at the Long Beach Airport Burn Pit. All fire activity will be fully contained within the burn pit area and conducted under strict safety protocols. There will be no impact to aircraft operations.

PRM Fall Class Registration Opens Monday

The department of Parks, Recreation and Marine (PRM) will offer over 700 activities this fall for all ages throughout the City. Classes will start in September and extend through November 2026. LBPD National Night Out 2026

Long Beach Vaccination & Resource Fair
