July 31 Greetings
Dear Ones,

It’s Friday, the end of another week, as we continue to “Be Church Together” even as we are apart. We are in the middle of a heat wave! With these triple digit days, please make sure that you are staying hydrated and that you are checking in with your neighbors and friends to be sure they aren’t suffering any HVAC problems and are hydrating, too! We have all experienced the heat of summer here in Northern Arizona, and I have found that half of the battle is just keeping busy thinking about cool things!
One of the Lowe family’s favorite vacation spots is Hawaii! Nobody there would ever make the famous AZ claim “but it’s a dry heat” ‘cause it’s not! Usually the rising temperatures there are accompanied by a rise in humidity. One of the ways that the locals keep cool is with shave ice. Hawaiian shave ice  is an ice-based dessert made by shaving a block of ice. While it may look like a snow cone, snow cones are made with crushed, rather than shaved ice. Flavored syrups are added, usually in tropical flavors. It really does cool you down!
Here is a picture of the view from outside the condo I stayed at the last time I visited Hawaii in March of 2017.
What is the coolest bird around? How about penguins!
They are a group of aquatic flightless birds. They live almost exclusively in the Southern Hemisphere, with only one species found north of the equator. Highly adapted for life in the water, penguins have counter-shaded dark and white plumage and flippers for swimming.
I always think of them living in Antarctica, but they are not found only in cold climates. In fact, only a few species of penguin live so far south. Several species are found in the  temperate  zone, but one species, the  Galápagos penguin , lives near the equator. Here is video of some funny penguin antics from the BBC:
New Zoom Group Study being offered!

How does Emmanuel respond to those with disabilities? We assist those with many needs in our community, but what about members or guests who are blind or visually impaired, deaf or hard-of-hearing? How does our worship (online or in-person) serve or restrict them? How can Emmanuel respond going forward to those with mobility, sensory, intellectual, or other disabilities? Anyone interested in a timely study, please email Gail Kenny at  centralazdweller@gmail.com  or call her at 928-533-2503.

And Happy 30 th Anniversary, Americans with Disabilities Act!

The church office is staffed from 9:00am to 1:00pm most weekdays. Please call ahead or knock loudly to let us know you are coming or are here! Mary continues to take Mondays off; we are so grateful to the volunteers who are covering for her.
Remember that we are asking everyone to wear masks when they are in the building with other people; let’s stay safe out there, people!
We recorded the worship services yesterday, there is some great special music with Gene and Cathy on organ and vibes and Cheryl Hartz playing guitar. If you have been missing your church friends, drop by our Sunday morning 10:00am Fellowship time on Zoom! It’s a great chance to check in and chat with the friendly folks of Emmanuel! Here is the link for the Zoom invite.

Remember this? From my first winter here, just a little snow in the backyard from February 22, 2019.
And a song to soothe your soul...
...an acoustic guitar version of "Jesus Loves Me", arranged by G. Bodnar.
A Bible verse for today:

Like the cold of snow in the time of harvest are faithful messengers to those who send them; they refresh the spirit of their masters .
