National Threat Assessment Center to Hold Virtual Return to School Event on

August 13th

"In anticipation of the Fall 2025 return to school, the U.S. Secret Service’s National Threat Assessment Center (NTAC) will host a virtual event to highlight the Center’s latest release, titled Aligning Behavioral Threat Assessment and Management with a Multi-tiered System of Support: Building a Continuum of Prevention and Intervention. NTAC’s newest publication focuses on how education practitioners can best align BTAM programs alongside multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) in K-12 schools. This event will further highlight key findings and implications from NTAC’s decades of research and guidance on school violence prevention."

Illinois School Safety Conference October 1st

The Illinois School Safety Conference is scheduled for October 1, 2025, from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm in Niles, IL. This conference is free for school personnel, police, fire, emergency preparedness personnel, and public safety officers (you must bring your school or agency ID to enter the event). The conference includes speakers from various organizations, free continental breakfast and lunch, and onsite vendors. Additionally, paperwork will be provided on site for school personnel seeking Professional Development hours. For more information and to register, click here.

Upcoming Threat Assessment Team Training

July 14-15th in Marion

This is the last chance to register for the Threat Assessment Team Training class being held July 14-15th in Marion, IL.

This comprehensive 2-day K-12 training on multidisciplinary, community-based threat assessment teams provides a history and background of threat assessment, targeted violence, threat assessment research, risk factors, and behavioral indicators of those who are intending to commit targeted violence against others. It also provides training on the concept and advantages of a community-based, multidisciplinary threat assessment system, team dynamics, threat assessment process, and management principles.

Upcoming Session of the NASRO Basic SRO Course Being Held in Normal

The Law and Justice Commission MTU 8, in partnership with the Illinois School Resource Officers Association, is hosting a session of the NASRO Basic School Resource Officer Course July 21-25, 2025, in Normal, IL. This week-long training is "designed to prepare school resource officers, other law enforcement officers, and school safety professionals to fulfill their roles in the school setting effectively. School administrators and education professionals would also benefit from this course."

Registration Open for Illinois Invent2Prevent

Illinois high schools are invited to participate in Invent2Prevent, a free school safety and prevention program. "Illinois Invent2Prevent challenges high school students to create and implement peer-developed initiatives, products, and tools to prevent targeted violence in ways they think will be most effective in making their schools and communities safer."
