Zero Waste needs YOU to make the Rotary Green Team and July 4th successful!
The Rotary Auction & Rummage Sale:
12 hours a day for 5 collection days, 2 sorting days and 1 gigantic sale day...
that's how long the Green Team (along with the other 1500 volunteers) devotes to ensuring that donation packaging, broken things and unsaleable items are reused or recycled if at all possible.

Be a part of our Green Team. Just try one 2-hour shift and you'll be hooked! Go here to see how the Green Team works and pick the shift(s) that suit you.
4th of July

You'd think the signage at our stations would do the trick, but it takes your human staffing touch to make sure guests put compostable stuff in the green cart and keep food waste out of the recycling cart.

All shifts still need ambassadors, with 11-1 and 3-5 being the busiest times. If filling in the Doodle sign-up proves a problem, just email me and I will put you in.

Still needed:
7-9 am set-up > 2 more
9-11am > 3 more
11am-1pm > 2 more
1-3pm (during parade) > 4 more
3-5 pm > 4 more
5-6:30pm > 3 more

Thank you!
A Fantastic Fashion in the Forest
Over 200 attendees walked the IslandWood trails on June 12 to admire the creative handiwork of local upcycling designers in the sixth annual ReFashion Show. Bainbridge Review reporter Nancy Treder spotlighted 2022 BHS graduate Lily Lashmet (on right in photo to the left), as well as a few of the other artists, in a recent article. Lily has entered the ReFashion Show ever since the seventh grade!
Below are the winning entrants in each category. See all submissions on the ReFashion Bainbridge website.

Tideland Magazine Spotlights ReFashion Founder
Tideland magazine turns the spotlight on ReFashion Bainbridge's Naomi Spinak in its just-delivered summer issue. On pages 48-49, Rebecca Hall delves into Naomi's clothes-buying philosophy, as well as describing the evolution of the Trashion Show.

Also mentioned in the magazine is another program of Zero Waste, its tableware lending library. On pages 24-25, interior designer Denise Stoughton lays out a summertime table setting using various pieces that have been donated to the lending library over time.
Repair Day at BARN
Do you need an item repaired that is focused on metal or related electrical projects? Then take advantage of the equipment and skills of the Metal Fabrication group at BARN. (No wheeled vehicles, please.)

This free event takes place on Saturday, July 9, 10am-12:30pm, and is open to both members and non-members. BARN volunteers encourage you to participate alongside them in the fix-it process, which may result in success or suggestions for further avenues to pursue. Reservations are suggested.
Helpline House Promotes Community Reuse
Consider the reduce - reuse - recycle hierarchy the next time you have paper grocery bags or paper egg cartons to discard.
Recycling the former or composting the latter are possibilities, but having them reused instead is the superior choice, and Helpline House is one such endpoint.
You may drop off directly at Helpline during business hours (Monday and Tuesday or Thursday and Friday, 9:30am-4pm) or place in the Helpline bin at T&C or Safeway.
Please follow these criteria when donating:
  • Clean paper grocery bags with handles, double-bagged, with receipts removed
  • Clean paper egg cartons, one dozen size only
Hydration Station Preview at the Library
Now through June 30, check out the touchless water dispenser in the display case in the Bainbridge Public Library lobby. Then bring your own bottle and try it out while...
