Greetings!
Growing up in the Baby Boomer generation, practically all of us were very patriotic and remain so to this day. Our parents participated in WW II and Korea as members of the military and as loyal supporters at home. We were taught at a young age that patriots gave their lives on the battlefield so we could remain free.
Back then, the school day would start with a prayer and the pledge of allegiance. In 1962, the Supreme Court of the United States made the grievous decision to remove school prayer, yet to this day, “one nation under God” is still in the pledge of allegiance and “in God we trust”, remains on our currency.
Many surveys have shown that older generations are far more patriotic than younger ones. In many schools today, lessons teach more about the ills of America rather than our Godly heritage. Classroom subjects including Critical Race Theory, that divides races as oppressors and oppressed and the 1619 Project that paints a dark picture of America, neglect teaching that our founders believed that God is the author of liberty.
For the last 10 years, 4Tucson has been hosting US Constitution and Biblical Citizenship classes for adults and high school students. Christian educator, Claire Morgan, who has taught most of our classes, has been hosting at her church a July 4th Camp for grades 1-8 that give children a fun way to learn what it means to be a Christian citizen.
This Saturday, April 30th from 9:30am-11am at Tucson Fellowship Bible Church, Claire is offering a free July 4th training session so your church can conduct your own July 4th camp. This July 4th Camp can be a great addition to your church summer youth programs. Teaching young people principles like: praying for our nation and our leaders is a great way to start off the camp. The lessons include teaching the principles that “all men are created equal, that God gave us inalienable rights, that governments get their power from the consent of the governed as well as civic virtue and the role of Christian citizens.
You will be trained how to conduct a July 4th Camp to teach children our founding principles using songs, scriptures, short teachings, videos, games, and crafts. Claire will provide a list of material links and sources, examples of crafts, and suggestions about how to separate the children’s groups (1-3rd, 4-7th and 8th grades) for crafts.
Even if you are not teaching the children yourself, you can attend the July 4th Camp training and bring the material back to your church. There is a video and registration link below in this newsletter so please register right away for this free training so we know how much material to provide.
