Words from Will...
Welcoming Your New Pastors
David Johnson has now arrived and will be preaching this Sunday morning. You will thoroughly enjoy his great way of bringing the Word of God to us. Pat McCain will be arriving officially on September 1. But as you can see below, groundwork for the work of the three of us together with you is already being laid. David, Pat and Monica, and Tina and I met at the Domain and had a wonderful dinner together (the first for us all to be together). The food was great, but the fellowship and prayer together was even greater.

New Pastors
As they begin ministry with you, here are some tips for making great connections for friendship, faith and ministry.
  • Regularly use your name tags. We are a large congregation in multiple services, but each person is valued. Don't have a name tag? You may request a name tag at the Welcome Desk in the foyers of the sanctuary and the Family Life Center, or by sending your request to Rae Frenette,
  • Share your name over and over. If you have a cute way to make your name more memorable share it!
  • Invite them to a short lunch after church. They will be tired, but they will enjoy the chance to get to know you beyond your pretty faces.
  • Ask about their lives outside the, hobbies, and things about their background. You will find you have much in common. Some of those things will be laughable...a good thing.
  • Give them lots of grace and they will return the favor. This is something I find First Church is quite good at!
On August 1, we will be meeting Chris and Shelley Burton and their new baby, James, as Chris takes the helm in Handbell Ministry. There are lots of new beginnings happening at First Church. I am excited for what each of these new staff persons will bring to our congregation, and how they will lead in ministry. I am even more excited for them to get to know you and share the love of Christ alongside you.

See you Sunday! It will be a great one!

Sincerely in Christ,

Children's Ministry
WOW! We had an amazing two weeks of VBS at First Church!
222 children June 18-22, 221 different children in week 1, and 100+ volunteers each week, ranging in age from 11-82!  Mark your calendars for June 2019! There is a job for everyone and it's so much fun! Many volunteers thanked me for allowing them to be part of VBS! All participants learned that Jesus Rescues from loneliness, worry, struggle, sin and powerlessness.

The excitement of the children and their enthusiasm for mission was inspiring! June 18-22, children in the 5th grade mission program took 222 pounds of food to the Round Rock Area Serving Center. $649.29 was brought in for Operation Kid-to-Kid. We will be purchasing drought resistant seeds for children in Haiti. During week 2, June 25-29, children in 5th grade mission program took the 585 pounds of nonperishable food brought by VBS participants to the Round Rock Area Serving Center. $793.19 was brought in for Operation Kid-to-Kid! An anonymous donor contributed $400 and Emerson Davis, age 4, donated $12.75 from her lemonade stand. First Church will be donating $1855.23 to the Operation Kid-to-Kid mission and feeding 100 children in Haiti for one year. Way to go!

In addition to VBS worship, our 5th grade mission children prepared food for families staying at the Ronald McDonald House in Austin on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. They visited residents at Wyoming Springs Assisted Living and Hearthstone. They also made dog biscuits for WILCO in our church kitchen and made placemats for MADD. Serving in so many different places gives them an opportunity to decide what kind of service they enjoy.
