Hello Prairie Central!

As we enter into the new appointment year, I invite your prayers for pastors and congregations experiencing a season of transition. In Prairie Central District, we have ten congregations with new pastoral leadership: Plainfield, Grace: Naperville (associate), Ingleside: Joyful Spirit, Algonquin: Christ, St Andrew: Carol Stream, Elmhurst: ChristFirst, McHenry: First, Hebron, Cary, and Wheaton: Gary.

I invite you to join me in prayer for these new beginnings!

May the hope we share in Christ lead us all into the future–loving boldly, serving joyfully, and leading courageously!

Every Blessing,

DS Rev. Wendy Hardin Hermann

Journey Through Illinois Brings History, Justice, and Faith to Life

Participants on the NIC/IGRC Illinois Pilgrimage spent four days visiting historic sites that tell the story of our state’s diverse peoples and the ongoing pursuit of justice. Stops included Greenstone UMC, the Obama Presidential Center, the National Museum of Mexican Art, the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library, Cahokia Mounds and more, where participants reflected on the stories of labor movements, civil rights, Indigenous communities, immigration, and racial justice. Rev. Sharon Rice shares her reflections on this meaningful journey and the importance of learning from the past as we seek to build a more just future. Read more.

The board also recognized two congregations for their outstanding commitment to mission giving. Read more.

Camp & Retreat Ministry:

AC Decisions & Next Steps

Following a thoughtful and heartfelt conversation at the 2026 Annual Conference, members approved legislation authorizing the task force to conduct feasibility studies to evaluate the NIC’s outdoor & retreat ministry and discern how it can best serve future generations. The legislation did not determine the future of any particular camp property. Instead, it calls for a comprehensive evaluation of ministry programs, site viability, financial sustainability, staffing, governance, and long-term strategy. The task force will begin the study this fall and provide updates as the work progresses, with any future recommendations requiring AC action returning to the conference for prayerful discernment. If you receive a message that seems suspicious or comes from another address, do not respond or click any links. Delete the message and notify the conference office so we can help alert others.
