Uplifting Voices: Sharing Methods of Community Restoration and Engagement
By Maya Angulo,
IVCLA International Programming Intern

With inhabitants from more than 140 countries speaking 224 languages, Los Angeles bolsters a remarkably diverse population. Promoting peace and prosperity between our city’s diverse communities is essential in ensuring the engagement, empowerment, and security of Angelenos.

Last month, IVCLA welcomed emerging leaders from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) on a program about “Peace and Conflict Resolution in Ethnic Groups.” As the DRC continues to emerge from a civil war, these individuals play a critical role as champions of peace in their home communities. We were honored to arrange a program for these visitors to meet with peacemakers in the Los Angeles area and engage in discussion, exchange best practices and lay the foundation for future collaborations.

Spotlight on Sustainable Development
Did you know? On September 25, 2015, countries around the globe adopted 17 Sustainable Development Goals designed to transform our world into a better place by 2030. The Global Goals each lay out specific targets to reach that will help end poverty, protect our planet, and ensure peace and prosperity for all. Read more about the goals here

Global dialogue is key when it comes to addressing such important issues. At IVCLA, we are doing our part by providing a platform for world-changers everywhere to exchange ideas and collaborate. We are constantly on the look out for new opportunities to take action as a community and help Los Angeles lead the way in addressing the most critical issues of our time.

How can you help? Tell your friends about the Sustainable Development Goals and share stories of everyday people making an impact! Check out this list of things you can do right now to take action!
