Quote of the Month:
"I was so surprised that the USA government, people and institutions really care for developing careers of people in other nations because with the massive denial of visas to Nigerians it makes it look like USA doesn't want people. But being here and listening to everyone, my perspective changed, and I am particularly happy they are interested in women's development.”

Farewell Message from Hannah Stoddard,
Communications & Events Coordinator
Dear IVCLA Friends,

I wanted to take a moment to share the news that after two wonderful years at IVCLA, I will be leaving at the end of this month to pursue a graduate degree in Development Practice at Columbia University.

I feel incredibly grateful to have had the opportunity to be a part of such a special organization, where I have learned more than I could have imagined and have consistently been inspired. I continue to be amazed by the people who make this work possible and ensure that people-to-people exchanges and international collaborations are sustained.

I especially want to thank my IVCLA colleagues - Janet, Natalia, Danica, Ho and Victoria. It has been an honor and a privilege to work alongside and learn from such dedicated and hardworking individuals. My time at IVCLA is an experience I will cherish forever.

I know my IVCLA experience will stay with me throughout my future endeavors, and as I take this next step, I look forward to staying involved with the organization and celebrating its successes, accomplishments and positive impact from the East Coast. Thank you to the entire IVCLA community. Your efforts truly make the world a better place. I wish you all the very best!

Sincerely,

Hannah Stoddard

80 Years of IVLP
The U.S. Department of State's International Visitor Leadership Program is the primary exchange program that IVCLA and other community-based organizations implement around the country. In December 2020, the IVLP will mark its 80th anniversary. January 2020 will kick off a yearlong celebration highlighting the accomplishments and lasting legacy of the IVLP program, which has brought over 200,000 international influencers to the United States from over 190 countries to address pressing global challenges.

To commemorate 80 years of exchange-making through the IVLP, the U.S. Department of State's IVLP 80 Faces of Exchange Initiative will highlight 80 IVLP alumni, nominated by the network of community-based organizations like IVCLA, who have had an impact both in the U.S. and their home countries. An interactive webpage will serve as the main platform for these highlights, including an interactive U.S. map with the 80 alumni stories. High school and college students have the opportunity to support the initiative and contribute to the webpage through the IVLP 80 Faces of Exchange Content Creator virtual internship.

As a content creator for the Faces of Exchange initiative, students will connect with selected alumni participant(s) and determine the best way to highlight the impact IVLP had on their life. Students will have the opportunity to:

  • Communicate with influential leaders around the world.
  • Provide assistance in the anniversary social media strategy and outreach campaign for the Faces of Exchange.
  • Develop interview questions designed to creatively highlight the IVLP impact
  • Propose a communications strategy for the selected individual to effectively highlight their individual impact.
  • Develop and refine visual and contextual content to engage domestic and foreign audiences, especially youth.
  • And more...
