The City of Greater Sudbury – News and Updates, July 2025

A Message from the Mayor

July Update

Happy Canada Day, Greater Sudbury!

As we come together for our national celebration, let’s each take a moment to reflect on all the values that make Canada - and our community - so special. Greater Sudbury is home to people from many different cultures and backgrounds. By embracing this diversity, we continue to grow as a more inclusive and vibrant community.

This month, we’re also proud to recognize Pride Week in Greater Sudbury from July 6 to 13. It’s a time to celebrate love, acceptance and the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. I encourage everyone to take part in the events and show your support for a more inclusive and compassionate city.

Summer is in full swing and there’s no better time to enjoy our beautiful parks, beaches and trails. Whether you’re attending a community event, exploring a new neighbourhood or simply relaxing outdoors, I hope you take time to connect with the people and places that make our city shine.

Wishing you a joyful and safe July!

Animal of the Month

Meet Florence!

Florence is a handsome two-year-old domestic medium-hair cat with a love for exploring, treats, gentle pets and peace and quiet. Independent yet affectionate on his own terms, he enjoys lounging in comfy spots and doing his own thing. He can be a bit grumbly or vocal at times, but don’t let that fool you—he still appreciates attention and will let you know when he’s in the mood for some company.

Florence has gotten along with some female cats, but may be happiest as the only pet in a calm, quiet home. If you’re looking for a mellow, low-maintenance companion who respects your space and offers the occasional cuddle, Florence could be the one for you.

To apply, visit our website or call us at 705-694-7387.

Anderson Farm Museum

Summer’s here – come and explore Greater Sudbury Museums’ Anderson Farm Museum! We’re open Wednesday to Saturday from July 2 to Aug. 29, and we’d love to see you. Drop by for a free tour of the site, including the newly reopened farmhouse!

There’s something for everyone this summer, so bring your friends and family and enjoy all the museum has to offer. Be sure to follow us on social media and check the Events and Programs section of our website for the latest updates.

Help Keep Our Waste Collection Teams Safe

We know residents care about keeping their neighbourhoods clean and preventing animals from getting into their garbage. Lately, some tips have been circulating on social media—such as sprinkling chili powder, cayenne pepper or household cleaners on garbage bags to deter wildlife. While these suggestions may seem helpful, they are not recommended by the City and can actually pose health risks to the people who collect your waste.

We’ve recently seen several incidents involving strong chemicals and other substances placed in household garbage. Even small amounts can make workers sick if inhaled, touched or blown into the eyes by the wind.

We’re asking residents to avoid putting any substances on their garbage bags. Instead, please bring household hazardous waste—such as chemicals and cleaners—to a proper depot. Not sure where an item should go? Visit greatersudbury.ca/wastelookup or call 311 for help.

Thank you for helping us keep everyone safe and healthy.
