Simi Valley Selected for Future 
U.S. Hockey League Expansion

Simi Valley has been selected as one of six West Coast markets identified for a new United States Hockey League (USHL) franchise. The announcement introduces an opportunity to bring elite junior hockey to the community while serving as the anchor for a proposed sports and entertainment destination.

Stakeholders have outlined a vision for a venue featuring a hockey arena that could also host concerts, entertainment events, and community gatherings. The proposed destination has the potential to attract visitors from throughout Southern California while creating new recreational and economic opportunities for residents and local businesses.

Los Angeles Kings President and Hockey Hall of Famer Luc Robitaille indicated his excitement about expanding opportunities for players and families throughout the western United States. "This has been a collaborative effort between an influential group of partners who share a common vision of growing the game of hockey. Simi Valley is a region with tremendous potential, and they are stepping up in a big way with this commitment. This effort will strengthen the development pathway for young athletes while creating a destination that brings people together through sports, entertainment, and community events,” Robitaille said.

Simi Valley Adopts FY 2026–27 Budget & Capital Improvement Plan

The Simi Valley City Council has adopted a balanced $283 million Budget and Five-Year Capital Improvement Program (CIP) that invests in the services, infrastructure, and public safety resources residents rely on every day while maintaining the City's long-standing commitment to fiscal responsibility.

At the center of the budget is the $100.4 million General Fund, which pays for many of the City’s day-to-day services, including police, emergency response, senior services, and administrative operations.

Highlights include:

• $27.8 million for capital improvement projects throughout the community.
• More than $6 million for street and roadway improvements.
• $21.4 million for water and sewer infrastructure upgrades.
• Nearly $900,000 to enhance police technology, equipment, emergency response, and officer safety.

The budget also reflects the City's conservative financial approach, with strong reserve levels and a AAA credit rating that positions Simi Valley to continue delivering high-quality services while planning responsibly for the future.

City Council Meeting Highlights


Here's a look at a few actions taken by the Simi Valley City Council during its June meetings that support City services, infrastructure, and long-term planning.

• Transitional Housing Feasibility Study: Approved a letter of support for a study to evaluate the feasibility of a potential transitional housing project at the Samaritan Center. The study does not commit the City to funding or future project approval. View the June 8th Staff Report (PDF).
• Quarterly Economic Development Update: Received an update on economic development initiatives and new business activity, including the anticipated arrival of Whole Foods and relocation of Pennymac to Simi Valley, along with other projects that continue to support investment, job creation, and a strong local economy. • Emergency Operations Plan: During the first reading, approved updates to the City's Emergency Operations Plan to strengthen emergency preparedness, improve coordination during disasters, and align with current state and federal emergency management standards. 2025 Annual Water Quality Report 

The City of Simi Valley and Ventura County Waterworks District No. 8 have released the 2025 Annual Water Quality Report, confirming that the drinking water delivered to City/District customers met or exceeded all state and federal water quality standards throughout 2025.

Simi Valley is served by two water providers. This report covers Ventura County Waterworks District No. 8, which supplies drinking water to approximately 68% of Simi Valley's homes and businesses, as well as portions of unincorporated Ventura County. Customers served by Golden State Water Company receive a separate annual water quality report.

E-Bikes: Summer Safety Tips

Electric bicycles (e-bikes) are a popular way for teens and adults to get around town, so it is important that riders of all ages follow safety and traffic laws. Before you take your e-bike for a ride, check its classification to determine which areas are e-bike-friendly and review any speed limits, helmet requirements, and age restrictions. 

Remind yourself and others to wear a helmet and travel at a safe speed around pedestrians. Additionally, consider registering your e-bike with the Simi Valley Police Department in case your bike is lost or stolen.

New Electric Bus Fleet Unveiled

Simi Valley is investing $7.2 million to replace six aging compressed natural gas buses with new battery-electric buses, marking an important step toward a cleaner, quieter, and more reliable transit system. Expected to begin service in 2026, the new buses will produce zero tailpipe emissions while providing a smoother, more comfortable ride for passengers.

Beyond replacing the buses, the City is also investing in charging infrastructure, specialized maintenance equipment, and workforce training to support the transition to electric transit. Together, these improvements will help modernize Simi Valley Transit while enhancing service for riders and reducing environmental impacts for the community

City Volunteer of the Year Recognized

Congratulations to Chaplain Bill Martin on being named Simi Valley’s 2026 City Volunteer of the Year. At 89 years young, Chaplain Martin has donated 500 hours of his time to volunteer service at the Police Department! He assisted officers and their families and gave back to community members in need.

City Employee of the Month

Please join us in congratulating Gregory Seymour as our Employee of the Month!

Gregory, a Nutrition Services Worker at the Senior Center, created a dietitian-approved recipe book for the Ventura County Area Agency on Aging that is now used by other senior centers throughout Ventura County. Gregory manages and executes high-quality meal preparation for two vital programs for over 230 individuals. The meals are carefully prepared to meet specific dietary guidelines and nutritional needs. In addition to his daily responsibilities, Gregory supports special events with his creativity and flexibility, leading an incredible team of volunteers. 

Gregory is an invaluable member of our team. His dedication, passion, and commitment to those he serves make a meaningful difference every day. 

2026 Free Residential Cleanup and Recycling Days  

Two upcoming free residential clean-up and recycling days are available to all Simi Valley residents in 2026. They will be held on Sunday, July 19th, and Sunday, October 18th, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Simi Valley Landfill and Recycling Center located at 2801 N. Madera Road. Simi Valley residents must provide proof of residency, such as a driver’s license or waste and recycling bill with a Simi Valley address. A household may dispose of up to two truck or vehicle loads.   

Participants are asked to separate recyclables from trash to facilitate recycling. Loads must be covered during transport to prevent litter. No commercial waste, hazardous waste, electronics, liquids, tires, household batteries, products containing mercury (such as thermometers and thermostats), or fluorescent light bulbs are allowed.   

Join Us for National Night Out: A Celebration of Community and Public Safety 

National Night Out returns to the Simi Valley Town Center on Tuesday, August 4th, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.! The event is a unique opportunity to connect with public safety professionals from multiple agencies.  

Residents of all ages are invited to come together and meet the dedicated men and women who serve and protect our community while enjoying a variety of exciting activities and attractions. 

The event will feature something for everyone, including a variety of food trucks, a live DJ, interactive games, a Push-Up Challenge, and a Simi Valley Police Department K9 demonstration. In true family-friendly fashion, the event will have a face painter and feature a special appearance from Chase of Simi Patrol. 

Throughout the event, attendees can enjoy giveaways, meet first responders, explore public safety vehicles and equipment, and learn more about the services available in our community. We look forward to seeing you there!

Ride Free Programs Extended for Youth

Students can continue to ride public transit in Ventura County for free thanks to an extension of the Youth Ride Free and College Ride programs through June 30, 2027.

This program applies to middle and high school youth and college students who show their school IDs when boarding public buses.

The continuation of this program makes it easier on the pockets of students, reduces road traffic, and encourages travel throughout the region.

Simi Valley Soroptimists Lead the Way in Promoting Healthy Living 

Soroptimist International Simi Valley is stepping up to support community wellness through the upcoming Senior Center “Walk With Ease” program. Their generous donation of books, reusable water bottles, and pedometers will be gifted to every participant who completes the six‑week walking workshop beginning on Monday, July 20th.
