July Climate Solutions Caucus Round-Up

July Engagement:

Co-Chair Scott Peters and Vice Chair Chrissy Houlahan speak to embassy leaders and Caucus allies at the Climate Solutions Foundation summer reception.

In late July, Caucus leadership gathered alongside staff, allies, and embassy partners at the Climate Solutions Foundation’s summer reception where they announced Rep. Scott Peters (D-CA) as the new Democratic Co-Chair of the Caucus and Rep. David Valadao (R-CA) as the Republican Vice Chair. Rep. Andrew Garbarino (R-NY) will continue to serve as the Republican Co-Chair while Rep. Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA) will maintain her leadership on the Caucus as the Democratic Vice Chair. 

Staff discuss grid reliability and national security with leadership from the Department of Defense, Idaho National Lab, Berkshire Hathaway Energy, and SAFE to discuss grid reliability and national security. 

In mid-July, staff gathered for a roundtable discussion on energy and national security, including the Department of Defense's (DoD) role in carrying out recent Executive Orders on energy, and the importance of innovative tech and infrastructure security in ensuring defense readiness. Staff were joined by the Director of SAFE’s Center for Grid Security, DoD’s Deputy Assistant Secretary for Energy Resilience and Optimization, the Director of Idaho National Lab’s Center for Securing Digital Energy Technology, and the Senior Vice President of Policy at Berkshire Hathaway Energy. 

Looking Ahead: 


Members plan to meet next for a deep dive on geothermal energy in September.

 

Caucus staff plan to discuss energy economies and economic resilience in August.
