Thank you to our community partners, staff and patients who came out in support of our fun run and health fair on Saturday, June 4. We had great weather for a run/walk and we appreciated our SHIBA partners, the Orcas Island Health Care District, and the Orcas Island Resource Center coming to help support the event. A big shout out to the Island Market for their donation of bananas and granola bars. We love collaborating with and caring for our Orcas community!

Expansion of Women's Health Services

Beginning in late July, Island Primary Care – Orcas’ Susan Sandblom, ARNP, will be providing weekly Gynecology care in the clinic. This increases the access to women’s healthcare on the island from one day per month to one day per week. Susan brings more than 15 years of women’s health practitioner experience from her time at Virginia Mason Medical Center. Susan will consult with our OB/GYN team (Dr. Garde and Dr. Joe Wilson) on any complex patient issues and refer patients to them as needed. The Island Health team all have access to our patients’ medical records, which enhances collaboration and continuity of care. With this expansion in women’s healthcare at Island Primary Care – Orcas, coupled with the recent baby boom, and retirement and departure of other OB/GYN physicians, Dr. Garde will focus on the Labor & Delivery unit at Island Hospital’s Birth Center. Patients who have their baby at Island Hospital or who require a higher level of OB/GYN care, may schedule with Dr. Garde or Dr. Joe Wilson in Anacortes.

The Care You Need, When You Need It

When you have an urgent health event, Island Primary Care – Orcas is here to care for you. In addition to providing family medicine, labs, diagnostic testing, x-rays and internal medicine, Island Primary Care – Orcas also offers after-hours care for urgent, non-life-threatening health events. The process to access after-hours care is the same as making an appointment. For more details on the process, please read the steps below.

If you are experiencing a life-threatening event, such as a heart attack, please call 911. If your urgent health event occurs after the clinic is closed, and it is not life-threatening, call 360.293.3101 or toll-free at 360.376.2561. No walk-ins are available. Please listen carefully to the prompts. You will be asked to provide relevant medical information, and the on-call physician will return your call within 30 minutes to discuss the situation and provide medical advice on your symptoms.  If determined to be medically necessary, the on-call physician will contact an Orcas Island provider to address urgent medical issues on the island. This may result in an after-hours clinic visit or help in facilitating an appointment in the clinic the following day.

Island Primary Care – Orcas is not a walk-in clinic and appointments are required for all visits. In some cases same-day appointments may be available. Call 360.293.3101 to schedule an appointment.
