These cuts include funding for access to care for undocumented children, interpreter services, maternity services, the PAL referral line, and more.

As a Pediatric Hospitalist working nights and weekends it can be hard to have a set daily schedule. Now, more than ever, I need to make a conscious effort to practice relaxation techniques and mindfulness. I'm currently working my way through a "30 Days of Mindfulness" practice. Am I doing it every day? No. Am I doing it every other day? No. Am I doing it in the middle of the night shift? Maybe. But, like most of you, I'm doing the best I can - and find it helpful every time I do.

This past month Pediatrics Northwest became the latest large pediatric practice to join the WCAAP as a group member! Their membership reflects the longstanding meaningful partnership the WCAAP and Pediatrics Northwest have shared. Many Pediatrics Northwest pediatricians and subspecialists have been actively involved with the WCAAP. Mary Ann Woodruff has worked tirelessly with the Chapter promoting Early Learning, Behavioral Health Integration, and championing Reach out and Read. Julian Ayer served on our Board over the past ten years, first as a trustee and then just recently finished his term as our Chapter Secretary. The list goes on...

WCAAP's Membership & Engagement Committee Wants Your Help!

The WCAAP Membership and Engagement Committee is seeking new members! The committee's goals are to maintain and increase membership value for the WCAAP community and create venues for socio-politically and professionally relevant learning opportunities as it supports pediatric providers, practices, and communities across the state. Recent efforts include developing a bank of provider wellness resources in challenging times, creating listening sessions across Washington (now virtual), and developing opportunities for members to connect with and support each other through mentorship. We meet quarterly via phone or Zoom with occasional ad-hoc meetings added as needed. This is a great opportunity to help the Chapter ensure we are responding to member needs and providing excellent value. Our committee is small but mighty and we welcome your participation!

Provider Relief Funding: Deadline July 20th
|
|
On June 9, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced that pediatricians, pediatric medical subspecialists and pediatric surgeons will finally be able to access financial relief from the CARES Act Provider Relief Fund. Pediatricians, pediatric medical subspecialists, and pediatric surgeons can apply for a new Medicaid and CHIP targeted allocation of approximately $15 billion.
AAP recommends that all eligible members apply for this funding.
The deadline to apply is July 20th.

Shots Heard Response to Anti-Vaxx Social Media Attacks
Shots Heard Around the World is a "rapid-response digital cavalry dedicated to
protecting the social media pages of health care providers & practices." Resources include a free strategy guide to prepare for and defend against anti-vaxx attacks on social media, web pages and review sites.
The
HHS Office of Minority Health (OMH) recognizes
July as
National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month and encourages partners to help educate communities about the importance of mental healthcare and treatment especially during the pandemic. OMH will also encourage behavioral health professionals to develop their knowledge and skills to deliver culturally and linguistically appropriate services through OMH's free and accredited

Training: Preventing Adverse Childhood Experiences
The
CDC has developed
new training modules for mental health and pediatric medical care providers. The modules address the central role of mental health and pediatric care professionals in understanding, recognizing, preventing and treating adversity in childhood. Continuing education credits are available for completion of Introductory Training Modules 1 and 2.
