Hard Work & A Clean Kodiak
|
|
|
Have the Kodiak streets seemed a bit cleaner this month? June 18th marked the beginning of the Litter Patrol Program for the summer. The team of four local Kodiak High School students and their supervisor have been diligently walking up and down the streets of Kodiak, picking up litter and debris rain or shine.
Keep your eyes pealed for their bright yellow vests and the green or yellow bags they use for pick-up. To date, the crew has already picked up 70 large bags of trash stretching from the Coast Guard Base to White Sands Beach. Thanks to grants from the City of Kodiak, Borough of Kodiak, and ALPAR the Chamber of Commerce has been able to keep this important program running for over 15 years.

"New" is the word of the start of summer in Kodiak. We've been seeing building renovations, new parks, and new businesses opening. During the month of June, the Chamber was honored to help two members celebrate Ribbon Cuttings.
Many Islanders have already heard that Kodiak ushered in its first cannabis retail shop, High Rise LLC. The Chamber was on hand to host the two-hour long festivities unveiling the new business with Ribbon Cutting, Door-Prize give aways, and lots of fun! As one of the newest members of the Chamber High Rise LLC is contributing to the growth of the Kodiak economy, and the support services the Chamber is able to offer to the Kodiak Business Community.
The Chamber was also honored to be invited to the Ribbon Cutting of the Alutiiq Museum Ancestors Memorial Park. While the rain poured down, no spirit was dampened. A fair-sized crowd came to witness the blessing of the park by Father Innocent and ceremonial ribbon was cut by none other than Margaret Roberts. After the blessing and ribbon cutting, the group headed into the Alutiiq museum to enjoy dedications, gracious thank you’ s, and moving performances by the Alutiiq Dancers.
More Ribbon Cuttings can be expected in the month of July as new businesses open their doors and bolster the Kodiak economy. Please join the Chamber at the next Ribbon Cutting on July 13
th
from 10-12 at Kodiak Powersports and Marine (formerly KSS) on Mill Bay, where we’ll have plenty of give aways and information about your next Kodiak ride!
To schedule a ribbon cutting for your business, please reach out to Sarah at ChamberDirector@Kodiak.org or call (907) 486-5557.

Productive Procrastination:
Tim Urban | Inside the Mind of A Master Procrastinator
Tim Urban knows that procrastination doesn't make sense, but he's never been able to shake his habit of waiting until the last minute to get things done. In this hilarious and insightful talk, Urban takes us on a journey through YouTube binges, Wikipedia rabbit holes and bouts of staring out the window -- and encourages us to think harder about what we're really procrastinating on, before we run out of time.
