Three new reports explore cancer survival and survivorship needs in Wisconsin
We're excited to announce the release of three reports offering new insights on cancer survival and survivorship in Wisconsin. These reports highlight Wisconsin-specific data that can help inform and advance your work.

Find out more below, and share widely with your networks. If you have questions about these reports, please contact Outreach Specialist Alexandria Cull Weatherer.
Updated Relative Survival Report
The newly released Wisconsin Cancer Relative Survival Ratios, 2011-2017 provides a detailed breakdown of cancer survival in our state.

This report, published by the Wisconsin Cancer Collaborative with assistance from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, serves as an important update to Wisconsin’s first-ever cancer survival report originally released in 2016.

The updated report includes data from 2011-2017. Highlighted trends can help identify areas for improvement in prevention, screening, and early detection of different types of cancers.

Alcohol Use During Chemotherapy
A new article published in the Wisconsin Medical Journal examines self-reported alcohol use during chemotherapy among cancer survivors as a basis for future research and interventions.

Our authors found that alcohol use during chemotherapy is common and may increase the risk of complications. More research is needed to better understand this problem and to design effective intervention.

BRFSS Cancer Survivor Survey
In 2020, the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) surveyed cancer survivors in Wisconsin about their survivorship experiences.

Our latest data brief summarizes the BRFSS findings and identifies opportunities to improve future surveys. We are monitoring BRFSS data for 2021 and 2022, and we hope to publish additional results in the future.

SUMMIT SPOTLIGHT
Cancer Stories honors the stories of people affected by cancer
We are thrilled to open the 2022 Wisconsin Cancer Summit with a special performance of Cancer Stories, from the Wisconsin Story Project.

Cancer Stories is a powerful stage production that honors the personal stories of people affected by cancer.

For more than a year, Talish Barrow and Mike Lawler, co-founders of the Wisconsin Story Project, interviewed cancer survivors, caregivers, and oncologists.

Cancer Stories brings these interviews to life, with the help of an experienced cast of actors. Each character represents a real person, and the stories they share are taken directly from the interviews, word for word.

The end result is profound, candid, and deeply human.

We are honored to bring Cancer Stories to the Summit stage. We hope you can join us for this powerful event!
