We are thrilled to open the 2022 Wisconsin Cancer Summit with a special performance of Cancer Stories, from the Wisconsin Story Project.

Cancer Stories is a powerful stage production that honors the personal stories of people affected by cancer.

For more than a year, Talish Barrow and Mike Lawler, co-founders of the Wisconsin Story Project, interviewed cancer survivors, caregivers, and oncologists.

Cancer Stories brings these interviews to life, with the help of an experienced cast of actors. Each character represents a real person, and the stories they share are taken directly from the interviews, word for word.

The end result is profound, candid, and deeply human.

We are honored to bring Cancer Stories to the Summit stage. We hope you can join us for this powerful event!

As a reminder from the American Lung Association, there is still time to submit comments on the FDA’s proposed ban on menthol cigarettes and flavored cigars. If interested, submit your comments by August 2, and learn how the American Lung Association is working to reduce the harmful effects of menthol.

JUUL has been in the news a lot lately, and it can be hard to keep up with where things stand. A new update from the Wisconsin Tobacco Prevention and Control Program and the American Lung Association provide a quick summary of the latest news, as well as talking points about the appeals process that JUUL and FDA are currently undergoing. 

Mayhoua Moua, Executive Director of the Milwaukee Consortium for Hmong Health and a long-time member of the Wisconsin Cancer Collaborative, was recently honored as one of Wisconsin's 35 Most Influential Asian American Leaders. Congratulation, Mayhoua, for this well-deserved recognition, and thank you for your inspiring dedication and tireless leadership!

This continuing medical education (CME) course from the American College of Radiology will help you implement a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary lung cancer screening program in your practice.

This protocol is designed to help behavioral health and substance abuse providers reach out to the Hmong community and provide treatment and other services that are culturally sensitive, and therefore, more likely be to be effective. Plus, view highlights from the 2021 Wisconsin Hmong Behavioral Health Needs Assessment.

The National LGBT Cancer Network has created this toolkit to help LGBTQ+ communities understand colorectal cancer risk, learn how to get screened, and get support. Plus, you can view the directory of LGBT-friendly screening providers in Wisconsin, and add your name to the list by emailing [email protected].

To help address confusion around coverage and reimbursement, this new guide from the American Lung Association includes current coverage requirements for lung cancer screening, coding and documentation requirements, implementation challenges, and recommended resources for additional information.

This report from the American Cancer Society provides an update on the number of cancer survivors in the United States. Authors found that “more than 18 million Americans with a history of cancer were living in the United States as of January 1, 2022, with a little over 12 million (67%) aged 65 years or older.” The study also found substantial racial disparities in treatment and survival for common cancers that require addressing.
