Cobbs Creek Foundation's July Newsletter

Welcome to the July edition of the Cobbs Creek Foundation Newsletter! This month, we're thrilled to share updates on our Groundbreaking Ceremony, Academic Bridge Camp, and more!

Cobbs Creek Foundation's Groundbreaking Ceremony

On July 17th, Cobbs Creek Foundation broke ground, marking the start of construction for the Cobbs Creek Campus. The initial phases of development will include building a reservoir and pumphouse, the TGR Learning Lab, and the two-story driving range building.

Over 250 people attended, and we were fortunate to have Ukee Washington from CBS3 emcee the event. Additionally, we had a wonderful group of speakers, including Mayor Jim Kenney, Senator Vincent Hughes, Councilman Curtis Jones, Representative Morgan Cephas, and Kathyrn Ott Lovell, CEO of the Philadelphia Visitor Center.

“Today, we are embracing that history while investing in the future. This project will return a storied public golf course to its rightful place as a community beacon, and in doing so uplift one of our city’s great sporting legacies and create jobs right here in Cobbs Creek.” - Mayor Jim Kenney

Thanks to all who came and were part of this monumental event! Please see below for our wonderful Groundbreaking Recap Video, Fire Pit Collective's Promotional Video that premiered at our event, as well as a variety of coverage moments Cobbs Creek received!

Cobbs Creek Foundation's Summer Academic Bridge Camp

On Monday, July 17th, we launched our two-week full-day Academic Bridge Camp, an innovative program focused on children from the Cobbs Creek community. The camp, which is completely free to all participating families, is currently in session at WPACES from July 17th to July 28th, and will move to the Overbrook Education Center from July 31st to August 11th.

Thirty children, recommended by their teachers, will be participating in each two-week session. This careful selection process ensures we provide a targeted, impactful educational experience for each child.

Each camp's day begins with two academic enhancement sessions - 'Magical Math' and 'Cosmic Writers'. In these modules, children in second, third, and fourth grades engage in creative and inspiring activities designed to bolster their academic skills.

After a nutritious lunch generously sponsored by three local businesses, the afternoon transitions to a set of creative and character-building modules: 'Character and Crafts', 'Mad Scientist', and 'Leadership and Games'. As we wrap up the second week of our camp, we're thrilled to see a 99% joy factor among our participants!

But the fun and learning don't stop when summer ends! We're committed to maintaining the educational momentum through the school year with our after-school Math Club. This program, held twice a week at two partner schools, is designed to reinforce and enhance the math skills that students have learned during the camp.

Our end goal is to provide a continuous, year-round educational experience that complements the regular school curriculum and helps our students excel. As we conclude our two-week session at WPACES on July 28th, we eagerly look forward to the next adventure with 30 new children at the Overbrook Education Center.

Thank you for your continued support.

And, as our camp t-shirts say, "We are more than a golf course!"
