You Can Quit Smoking

Join us for an
educational presentation by Project Coordinator Tina Grosowsky
on tobacco prevention policy; effective tobacco cessation resources; the effects of secondhand smoke on children and adults; and tobacco industry tactics that target young people. All welcome!
The Central Massachusetts Tobacco-Free Community Partnership supports communities' efforts to lower smoking prevalence and exposure to secondhand smoke. Tobacco use is the #1 cause of preventable death and disability in Massachusetts. More than 9,000 residents die every year from the effects of tobacco - one person every hour of every day. Thousands more are disabled by tobacco use, suffering with chronic illness and pain.

Artist Audrey Weber
Reception Thurs, July 7 at 6:30 pm
During the month of July, the library is pleased to host the work of local artist Audrey Weber.
"Audrey Weber was born and raised in Southbridge and studied theater and art at Hampshire College in Amherst, MA. Her work focuses on storytelling through self-published zines, costume making, illustration and quilt making. Inspired by folk traditions, the natural world, vintage picture books, and cosmology Audrey strives to tell stories through images, often focusing on narratives that celebrate pacifism, feminism, beauty and the mysteries of the world we live in, both small and large. She currently is working on her first picture book while living on a small farm in Montague, MA."
You are invited to attend the opening reception on Thursday, July 7th from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm. Light refreshments provided by the Friends of Jacob Edwards Library.

Krosslink.org is a volunteer-driven community program created to help develop, nurture, and foster entrepreneurship by connecting aspiring entrepreneurs to local business leaders, mentors and civic leaders who can help them achieve their goals. Weird Massachusetts with Jeff Belanger
Thursday, July 28 at 6:30 pm
Prepare to explore the unexplained with Jeff Belanger-one of the most visible and prolific paranormal researchers today. Take a multimedia journey through the history, oddities, paranormal, and just plain weird side of the Bay State.
Since 1997, the journalist has interviewed thousands of eyewitnesses to paranormal occurrences. He's the award-winning, Emmy-nominated host, writer, and producer of New England Legends on PBS, and is the author of over a dozen books on the paranormal (published in six languages).
Belanger is the founder of Ghostvillage.com, the Web's most popular paranormal destination according to Google, and is a noted speaker and media personality who has lectured at libraries, universities, corporations, MENSA's national conference, and has given a prestigious TEDx talk in New York City.
He's also the host of the cable/Web talk show, 30 Odd Minutes. Belanger has written for newspapers like The Boston Globe and USA Today and is the series writer and researcher for Ghost Adventures on the Travel Channel. He's been a guest on hundreds of radio and television programs.

The Jacob Edwards Library is pleased to host a book talk and signing with Jenn Bishop, author of The Distance to Home. The fiction title is written for readers in grade 3 to 8 and provides a gripping story about a girl's love of baseball, her sister and the passing of her biggest fan. A heart wrenching story with lots of dramatic elements. Copies of the book will available for purchase at the end of the program. All welcome!

Creature Teachers
Live Animal Show

The Creature Teachers is a family owned live animal business specializing in environmental and animal education whose goal is to fascinate audiences with the wonders and diversity of the animals that share our planet. We invite you to join us for this fun program at the Jacob Edwards Library Children's Room and have an opportunity to get close to the animals and learn about their care.
The Creature Teachers have years of experience with both animals and people, with an emphasis on providing an enjoyable educational atmosphere for all.

3:00 - 4:30 pm
We'll bring the LEGO bricks, you bring the ideas! This is a drop-in program, so there is no need to register. Best for children over 5.
Completed Lego projects go on display in the Children's Room for a whole week. If you are in the library, stop by the Children's Room to see different Lego projects on display.

The library now has a telescope which can be checked out and taken home - just like a book. Use it to spend a night stargazing in your own back yard! Who knows what you will see?
Instructions and tips on what to look for are included. Must be checked out by an adult 18 or older.
