Production Techniques for Small Farms Webinar Series
Join us every Tuesday in the month of July for a four-part webinar series covering topics relevant to small fruit and vegetable producers for both field and high tunnel production systems.

Topics will be broken into four, 1.5-hour online sessions during the month of July. Sessions are not cumulative, feel free to register for one or all four!




Vegetable Gardening Series for Beginners
Have you always wanted to experiment with growing your own food at home? If so, now is a good time to start. This series will cover the basics of starting your own garden at home from seed to harvest and everything in-between.

This workshop has 4 sessions and each session introduces a different topic. Participants are encouraged to attend all four sessions without previous experience. Registration is required for each session (individually).

This session will garden design ideas, the importance of soil, garden preparation with a short question, and answer following the session.

This session will cover what, when, and how to plant your garden from transplanting or starting from seed. Also covered will be the importance of variety selection in NC.

This session will detail common home vegetable crops issues, how to maintain a long harvest season, and how to keep your garden healthy.

This session will be held at a local community garden where techniques can be demonstrated in person. First Reformed United Church of Christ on 104 East Center Street, Lexington, NC, 27292.

This session will detail proper ways to harvest common vegetable crops and why it is important as well as proper storage requirements for long-lasting vegetables.
Upcoming Poultry Virtual Workshops
Join us for any of the upcoming Backyard Poultry Programs that you are interested in. These will be held virtually through Zoom.

The Basics of Poultry Incubation
July 9, 1-2 p.m.

In this session, you will learn the basics of incubating poultry eggs. The primary focus will be on chickens, but we will touch on other species. We will discuss how to set up your incubator and how to troubleshoot common issues.

NC 4-H Virtual Summer Programs
4-H Summer Programming is going to look different this summer, but there are a variety of workshops to keep your youth engaged all summer long.

Direct Payments to Farmers - Coronavirus Food Assistance Program
The USDA has made arrangement for farmers to apply for direct payments through the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program (CFAP). This includes all the traditional commodity program crops, such as corn, soybeans, small grains, cotton, etc. It also includes direct payments available to producers of livestock and specialty crops.  

USDA-FSA will start taking applications on May 26, 2020.  You can schedule a phone appointment with the Davidson-Davie USDA-FSA office by calling (336) 248-2687. The Davidson-Davie FSA office will continue to be open for business by phone appointment only (no in-person appointments) at this time. FSA staff can also be reached by email:
