Planning the 20-21 School Year
In this edition, we are sharing some of the information you’ve been waiting for about the 2020-2021 school year. I am going to be honest; we don’t have all the answers yet. But, we have worked hard to make decisions as we have received guidance from the Texas Education Agency. Since May, I have spoken to students, staff and parents to get input regarding the calendar, learning process and options, and health and safety. We’ve held numerous Google Meets, sent surveys and created an email address so that stakeholders can ask any questions they have regarding the new year. The Teaching and Learning Department has designed learning models for remote, hybrid and face to face instruction as TEA suggested beginning in May. Due to a great deal of prior planning, the Technology Department has been able to fast-track going “one-to-one”, meaning every student at FISD will be provided with a device for digital learning. This makes face-to-face instruction more engaging for students and allows for a smooth transition to remote learning should there be an unexpected COVID related shutdown. It also fulfills one of the tactics of the FISD Strategic Plan. The Operations Department has planned protocols for cleaning and disinfecting campuses as well as health and hygiene practices. It has been difficult, but I am proud of the work we have done and the transparency with which we’ve done it. I will continue to communicate with our stakeholders so that you can make the best decisions for your children and their education. We look forward to opening our doors in August and partnering with you to prepare your child for a prosperous life.
FISD Learning Options for 2020-2021
For the 2020-2021 school year, FISD will offer two learning options for students, Remote and Face-to-Face. The week of July 20, parents will be asked to register for the learning option they prefer for their children. However, in accordance with Texas Agency guidelines, parents will have the opportunity to change their preference two weeks prior to the beginning of school.

We Want Your Input - Reopening 2020-2021 Survey

A 2020-2021 reopening survey was emailed to parents/guardians on Wednesday, July 1, 2020.
To guide the important decisions we must make, we ask you to complete the short survey. Students in grades 6-11 during the 19-20 school year were emailed a student survey on July 2. Please ask your child to check their FISD email account. The surveys will remain open until July 12, 2020 .

A Device for EVERY FISD Student

FISD is excited to announce that in 2020-2021 every student will be issued a device for their use at school and at home, realizing one of the FISD Strategic Plan’s tactics. Going “one to one” gives every student the same opportunity to experience an innovative learning environment..
