July 2026 Joy Connection

All Are Welcome at Our 12th Anniversary of Life, Love, and Nick's Legacy on Monday, July 27th

We invite you to join us for this special day at Driftwood Beach between Venice and Marina Del Rey to reflect on the ripple effect of Nick's life and legacy. A meal is served at 5:00, the program starts at 6:00, and be sure to stay to be part of the heart on the beach at sunset. There's no cost to attend, but we do need everyone to RSVP to ensure we have enough food for you, your family, and friends.

9th Annual NDHS/TJNFF Baseball Extravaganza

Thank you to all who participated in the Annual Father's Day weekend NDHS/TJNFF Baseball Extravaganza at Notre Dame High School and congratulations to tournament champions BATRS Black! A shout-out to the Coaches of the Notre Dame Knights Baseball program who make this event possible every year at their beautiful stadium. Team registration fees, a silent auction, concession stand sales, and the gift card raffle contributed to nearly $5,000 of net event revenue in support of Thrive in Joy's 2026/2027 C11 high school strength of character program and upcoming Dominican Republic youth projects.

From Data to Design: Our Summer Interns Are Leveling Up Thrive in Joy

This summer, Thrive in Joy is benefiting from the expertise of two exceptional USC student interns. Ethan Choi, a Marshall School of Business sophomore and Alice Tsioutsioulikli, a Roski School of Design junior.

Ethan’s focus on data analytics and marketing will result in Thrive in Joy having a complete data set of our program’s effectiveness to share in our 2026 Annual Report. Additionally, Ethan has done a phenomenal job of event promotion for the Baseball Extravaganza and he’s now working on our Beach Day logistics.

Thanks to a grant in May from Retail Orphan Initiative, Alice is designing a digital platform for the newly envisioned Thrive in Joy Collective, which is the evolution of our former Club Thrive in Joy format. We can’t wait to launch the pilot phase of Alice’s creation which will provide management with an overview of all program activity while Advisors and Student Co-chairs will have dynamic resources to plan, track, and execute their Collective activities and events. A third level of the platform will give funders, media, and prospective schools a look at what the program entails and how it’s changing students’ lives.

Reflections

From Mary Fagnano, Nick's mom, Thrive in Joy Co-Founder and Executive Director

While the school year is always action-packed, things don’t slow down for Thrive in Joy in the summer as you’ve read in this newsletter! Last week, I had the privilege of seeing 19 high school students shine in their ability to be inspiring leaders for their peers. Check out our Instagram Reel highlighting this amazing three-day training program! Each student interviewed in the spring for their leadership role for the 2026-2027 academic year. Over the course of three days, the students learned about Nick, discovered their character strengths, and planned out all they hope to accomplish in the coming year to make a positive impact on their campus and in their community. Getting to know these amazing young people over three days and watching them grow in their comfort with leadership and forming bonds with each other is one of the highlights of my year. I can’t wait for you to meet this new Thrive in Joy Collective who will be carrying out Thrive in Joy’s mission in the months ahead. Be sure to join us at the Beach Day on July 27th as most of them will be there with their families! Jay and I so look forward to seeing you there, too!
