July 2020 LAA Newsletter

Our cancelled Spring Show has now become our Spring into Fall Show now scheduled for Monday, November 2 (with intake on Sunday, November 1). The Show's Chair, Debbie Wurzel, is in the process of updating materials so watch your August 1 Newsletter for new details. You will also be hearing from Silent Auction Chairs, Penny Thompson and Marie Tomlinson on updates as well.

For those of you who have already registered for the show and wish to change your registered piece(s) to something new, we will be sending out information on the procedure to do so. If you haven't registered, watch for updated registration forms coming out in our August 1 Newsletter.

2021 Dues

Our Board has unanimously voted to forego charging dues to existing 2020 members for the 2021 season (new registering members will be charged the normal fee). As a way of saying thank you for your patience and understanding with regard to all of our LAA closures, we thought this would be a gesture that everyone would appreciate.

INTAKE & PICK-UP at Plantation is CANCELLED this month but will resume on Wednesday, August 5 ^th from 9-11AM. Please DO NOT take your artwork off of the gallery wall until August 5 ^th , when it can be replaced by your new piece. If you will not be here to pick up your artwork, please make arrangements for someone to pick it up for you ON AUGUST 5 ^th .

PLEASE NOTE: The Plantation Gallery has been temporarily replaced by the LAA/Sound View VIRTUAL GALLERY on Facebook. The gallery can be found in the Facebook group called “The LAA Art Challenge”, and a $100 and $50 prize will be awarded each month for 1 ^st and 2 ^nd Place pieces based on the month’s theme. Thanks to everyone who participated in June! To see the winners of the June Challenge, please go to our website at landingsartassociation.com .

The LAA Art Challenge theme for July is “Red, White & Blue ”. Post up to 2 of your pieces that contain one, two or all three of those colors and have never been seen in any of our venues. Please - only 1 piece per post.

Join the LAA Art Challenge FB group to view the rules for posting and to see other LAA artists’ artwork. You could be one of next month’s $100 winners! Good luck!

Artist of the Month

LAA ARTIST OF THE MONTH

We are pleased to announce that beginning July 1 and continuing through August 31, an all new exhibit of Photography by award-winning Photographer Jim Guerard will be on display.

Jim will be displaying 12 images that have never been available in print before and 11 of the 12 images have been captured in 2020. The exhibit is a montage of imagery from here in the Low Country and from an extended trip he did through Norway, Iceland, and Kenya in January and February of this year. Additionally, 7 of the 12 images were captured with his infrared camera and converted to black and white as he continues to explore this process as a way to create stunning imagery.

Also, in the case for the same time period will be small works by your LAA Board Members.

While our normal monthly reception has been postponed until further notice, the Plantation Club and Golf Shop are open for all to browse. So please feel free to stop by and check out LAA's new exhibits.

Include a picture (headshot) in your email and list the medium(s) you work in.

General Information

GENERAL MEMBER MONTHLY INFORMATION

Due to circumstances beyond everyone’s control, at this stage of the game, most of our events, meetings, workshops, and classes have been cancelled until further notice.

However, there is light at the end of the tunnel and beginning with August, we will be sending out our normal 1 ^st of the month Newsletter as well as a brief new news mid-month blast. So watch your email.

Please rest assured that no matter what the LAA event, until we are once again on safe ground, all manner of safety and social distancing will be observed to protect our members and guests!

Right now we’re trying to firm up dates either in October or November. We’ll send out an email to all of you who already registered. Our Newsletter will notify members of any open slots which will be available on a first come first served basis.

HOLIDAY KRINGLE MARKET

Our long-time sponsors, Sound View Wealth Advisors, have joined forces with the LAA once again to bring on the Holiday Kringle Market now scheduled for November 29 and 30. Diane Gannon has graciously agreed to Chair this popular event again this year.

The success of our past Markets will surely encourage LAA members to register quickly for the limited number of booths available. Watch your August 1 Newsletter for information on how to enter.

The LAA/Merrill Atrium Gallery

As we head into the summer months, we hope that we will soon be able to once again hang a new show at Merrill. For now, however, things will remain the same. We hope that you will continue to create so that you are ready when the time is right. In the meantime, submit your work to our virtual gallery on line and stay well!
