Libraries Love Lakes

Calling at tiny turtles! Our intern Katherine will be leading storytime at the Culver Union Township Public library on Tuesdays in July (15th, 22nd, 29th) at 3:30 pm.

A lake-themed story and craft will be on the menu. Come join us!

CYC Garden Club in full growth

Katherine, Adam, and Emerson (Indiana University Urban Green Infrastructure intern with the Town of Culver) have been gardening with the Culver Youth Club, growing both veggies and monarch butterflies.

Last week we learned what Mare's Tale looks like... an annual weed that was popping up in our pollinator garden. Their enthusiasm for weeding surprised us; alas, there is no guarantee that the energy will persist when it's time for the grandparent's flower bed!

We had a discussion about the Great Green Bean Mystery. Why were the upper leaves gone? We had many theories... ants, beetles, and deer. We concluded that, despite the substantial fence surrounding the school, hungry deer were the most likely culprit.

It's that time again... Culver Lake Fest 2025. Please swing on by and say hello this weekend. We will have a kid-friendly activity and smiling faces available!

Of Fireworks, Perchlorates, and DOGE

How do we know what we know, and what difference does it make?

Read this blog post to learn about our research into the effects of fireworks on our lake.
