As we hit the peak of summer, I hope business is busy and you are finding success in navigating the new world we are all living and working in. Your ABC of Iowa board met this past week and kicked off our 2020 PAC phone drive. Many of you may have received calls from me and if you haven’t, you will shortly.

We spend time raising money for our PAC to turn around and invest in candidates that share our values and continue to support and protect the merit shop. Over the past few years, because of our active PAC we have had an important seat at the table when it comes to discussing issues like PLAs, licensure changes and funding for our apprenticeship trust. The only way we will meet our goals is with your continued support.
I appreciate the contributions that some of you have already made and look forward to speaking with the rest of you in the coming weeks.

This month we also discussed actions being taken by the three councils relative to the recently adopted 2020-2023 strategic plan. Our council members have been hard at work with you in mind. We want to keep ABC of Iowa going in the right direction and that starts with a lot of planning. If you ever have any suggestions or concern, please feel free to reach out to me directly.

FALL REGISTRATION: NOW OPEN
We are about to turn the page on a new school year at ABC of Iowa. Registration for classes opened this week and closes August 12. At this month's Trust meeting, the board extensively discussed policies and procedures for this next school year. When classes start in September, we will adhere to the CDC guidelines and recommendations/orders from Gov. Reynolds.

More information and details about the school year will be forthcoming, but rest assured we’re working with the Board of Trustees, instructors and staff to develop the best plan for students and members.

RECOGNIZING EIC WINNERS VIRTUALLY
In case you missed it, the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Iowa Executive Committee unanimously decided to cancel the 2020 ABC of Iowa Excellence in Construction (EIC) Awards Gala that had been scheduled for Tuesday, July 14th at Prairie Meadows in Altoona. Read Board Chairman Kent Meyn’s full letter to members here.

Out of an abundance of caution regarding COVID, the facility added further restrictions on our event which make conducting a premier awards celebration for our members and their guests impossible.

We are disappointed that we are unable to celebrate in person, but we have planned virtual recognition that will be rolled out at the end of the month. Please keep an eye on our Facebook page and our website for more information.
