On August 1 at 6:30 pm join us on zoom to hear from volunteer leaders from Chevy Chase Presbyterian Church-- Welcoming Newcomers Task Force; Adas Israel-- Refugee Response Team; and Maryland Afghan Refugee Crisis Committee on best practices in working to support newcomer families in our community.

Good News Alert!

SHC grants update

SHC was selected to recieve a grant from Welcome US recognizing welcoming SHC programs and our innovative ways of working with volunteers to connect newcomers to our community.



SHC was chosen as the subawrdee by officials from Prince George’s and Montgomery Counties to adminster funds from a grant from the Open Society Foundation to provide direct housing assistance grants to 200 newcomer Maryland families from Afghanistan.  The grant also funds an SHC Community Resource Connector position to help families continue to connect to exisiting programs and services in our community!

New US Citizens

SHC Staff members Marzia Nazari and Amal Abuldood and their families both recently passed the USCIS citizenship interview and are now US citizens! Congratulations!
