Welcome back! This month we bring news about Christine Choy's memorial, the Advanced Production Workshop, film exhibitions, grants for filmmakers and more.

On July 18, Third World Newsreel, Christine Choy's family, the A/P/A Institute at NYU and Asian Cine Vision are hosting an event honoring Christine Choy's remarkable life and film legacy. Reserve your seat and learn more here.

We are also announcing the second pilot of the TWN Advanced Production Workshop. Open to past TWN workshop graduates, this program runs for four months from September-December. Thanks to the support of the Jerome Foundation, we will provide a small stipend and mentorship with a well established documentary filmmaker. Email workshop.twn@gmail.com to request the application link. Applications are due by July 24, 2026.

We are delighted to share the release of Michèle Stephenson's powerful new documentary film "True North: Canadian Myths and Black Power". Don't miss its national broadcast on PBS on July 6, or host a public screening in your community.

We also celebrate the achievements of our fiscal sponsored projects. Join us on July 19 for the NYC premiere of "Rediscovering Fanon", Rico Speight's new film about the lasting legacy of Martinican psychiatrist, philosopher, and revolutionary Frantz Fanon. "Once Upon a Time in Harlem" by William and David Greaves, will be in theaters starting on October 16.

This month, films from the Third World Newsreel catalog will be showcased at film festivals and art-house cinemas in the United States and abroad. The newly restored "A Litany for Survival" will premiere in Toronto and Columbus, Ohio. Three documentaries directed by Christine Choy will be part of the "Immigration Nation" program at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA).
