A Look Back at the 2017-18 Northeast Farm to School Institute Kickoff Retreat
Twelve school teams from the Northeast convened last month to kickoff the NE Farm to School Institute
to advance food, farm, and nutrition education and expand local products served in cafeterias. Over its ten years, the Institute has supported FTS programs at 62 schools and districts, reaching over 38,000 Northeast students!
"The whole purpose of this is to feed hungry kids good food," says Mary Dunn, Albert S. Hall School 5th grade teacher, and founder of the school's Farm to School efforts. We follow the team from Waterville, Maine during the course of the three-day Institute Kickoff Retreat.
New Research: The Importance of School Culture in Farm to School
How does school culture support the development and staying power of Farm to School programs? How does engaging in Farm to School affect school culture? A new research report produced by staff of Shelburne Farms and Vermont FEED hints at some answers.
The newly signed Vermont Farm to School Bill S.33 expands programs into Early Care Education (ECE). A new video short highlights some of the great work already being done in the state, and shows how
Farm to ECE supports integrative learning, including social and emotional development for young learners. We're excited to grow the movement into more childcare settings with the Vermont Farm to School Network!
Join us at Shelburne Farms to watch the seasons of a Vermont farm translated into classical ballet performances! Two performances will take place this summer: Sundays, July 23 and August 13. Local food vendors and a cash bar will be on hand, including NOFA-VT's pizza oven! Gates open at 5:00PM, show at 6:00. [Photo by Brandon Parrish]
