Celebrating 35 Years
In honor of our 35th anniversary, we will be recognizing several of our longest running artists. As a thank you to our valued patrons, we are offering a 10% discount off of our featured artist's work for the entire month.
July Featured Artist:
Miky and Steve Cunningham
Des Moines, IA
The Iowa art community lost longtime teacher and artist Steve Cunningham in March of 2017. Miky finished their remaining art shows that season. She's now planning her retirement while preparing to sell their home and studio. IAG is very fortunate to have acquired most of their remaining work. We have a wonderful array of pieces ranging from Miky's beautiful nature tiles made into mirrors and wall hangings to functional and sculptural pottery in their signature Wood Ash Glaze.

Sharon Burns-Knutson
Sharon Burns-Knutson is a much-loved Iowa artist who creates landscape paintings in both naturalistic and fantasy style. She works mostly in oil pastels and oils.
Born in 1948, she grew up mostly in Cedar Rapids, part of the only Irish family in a Czech neighborhood. Sharon is the second oldest of five children (a sixth died at age three). Starting at the University of Northern Iowa in chemistry, she later switched to art and received her B.A. in that subject. After teaching for five years, she went to the University of Iowa and received her M.A. and M.F.A. in painting in 1981.
In 1988, she completed two more years at Iowa in order to be qualified to teach kindergarten. She taught grade school art part-time in Iowa City for many years. Sharon also loves to run with her dog, Annabelle.
New Artist Announcement!
Morphew Designs
Heather Morphew Nelson
Des Moines , IA
Artist Statement:
I have enjoyed creating since I was a child. My father made his living as a self-employed carpenter and I took after his love of creating. My earliest memory of creating jewelry was when I was seven years old -- making earrings for all of my friends to wear for school pictures. I have experience with ceramics, stained glass, and lamp working, but creating jewelry is my passion.
Morphew Designs was born in 2010 as my jewelry creation was making a transition from a personal interest to an actual business, and is a tribute to my father who passed in 2003. Much of my inspiration comes from the beauty of the natural world: the oceans, lakes, forests, mountains, stars, planets, galaxies...the magnitude of this universe. I am always amazed. I have a passion for creating and strive for originality, quality and craftsmanship.
I specialize in incorporating metals with natural stones and applying various techniques to achieve unique colors, textures and designs. All designs are original and many are one of a kind.
Copper is my favorite metal for it's warmth and character. It is the most versatile metal for exploring texture and patinas. Copper is also hypoallergenic, like its sister metals -- gold and silver. Some of my other favorite materials include turquoise, freshwater pearls, and earthy semi-precious gemstones. My pallet is a reflection of the color schemes, forms and textures found in nature.
Perfect gifts for every occasion!
Our staff recently had the pleasure of meeting local Iowa City couple Karina Kruth and Larry Gray. As we were asking questions to help them find the perfect item to take home they mentioned that it was their wedding anniversary.

They told us that a few years back they had decided that in lieu of a fancy meal to celebrate they would rather come to the gallery together and agree upon something nice that they could use and enjoy for years to come. Karina and Larry have been married since 2011 and have been getting their anniversary gifts here since 2015.

We loved hearing this fun story and thought, what a cool idea! We look forward to helping them continue this tradition in the future. Cheers Karina & Larry!
