Rust and More: Call for Entries
|
RUST, a proposed group show in September at the GALA Gallery, 135 Front St., Winchendon, has openings for more artist members to join in exhibiting their presentations of rust in art forms. Currently the exhibitors are Alicia Drakiotes, Susan Ellis, Louise Parmenter Hammerman, and Brad Willard who have previously exhibited their rust creations as a group at the Jaffrey Civic Center, Jaffrey, NH, and the Heywood Library in Gardner.
We are seeking other members who find the beauty in rust, the abandoned, lost, and disintegrated, and thus create photographs, paintings, sculpture and innovative art works from these intriguing remnants of civilization. Please keep in mind the limitations of the gallery space.
For more information please call the "Rust" group coordinator: Louise Parmenter Hammerman at 978-874-2660 or email

Signs: New and Vintage Photographic Prints by Peter Alan Monroe
The Greenfield Gallery, Greenfield, MA
|
Photographer Peter Alan Monroe opens his vault to reveal a treasure trove of vintage images
Signs [Volume I, 1977 to 2015]: New and vintage photographic prints by Peter Alan Monroe, curated by Kate Hunter, on view at The Greenfield Gallery, June 21 through August 10. Artist reception Friday, June 28, 6 to 8 p.m.
Turners Falls photographer Peter Alan Monroe is an old-school darkroom photographer. He loves the technical side of printing-experimenting with darkroom chemicals and perfecting the tonal qualities of prints-almost more than he likes taking pictures. These days, with the advent of digital photography, he doesn't take many pictures at all.
Luckily-for Monroe and for us-he has decades worth of black and white and color negatives taken from the 1970s on that he has begun to explore with the help of photographer and master printer, Kate Hunter.
Monroe's new exhibit, Signs [Volume I, 1977 to 2015], treats the viewer to a collection of new and vintage prints gathered under the theme of signage. Curated, and in many cases digitally printed by Hunter, the exhibit offers a glimpse into Monroe's vault, bringing to life images that have never been printed before. Some vintage prints Monroe made when he still had a working darkroom will be included as well.
The exhibit runs Friday, June 21 through Saturday, August 10, with an artist's reception Friday, June 28, 6 to 8 p.m. at The Greenfield Gallery, 231 Main Street.
For more info: bit.ly/SignsVol1
The Greenfield Gallery 231 Main Street Greenfield, MA 01301 Hours: Tuesday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Upcoming 2019 Workshops
Monadnock Area Artists Association, Keene, NH
|
July 20 - Susan Rock - Beginner Watercolor
This will be a one day workshop at Susan's studio in Marlow, NH. All painters are welcome. It will be a fun day of painting our surroundings, water, landscape and flowers. In case of rain, we will be indoors.
This class is especially for beginners. We will discuss how to make the paint and water behave. Some say that watercolor is the most difficult medium there is, but in this class, you will be ex-posed to the ways the paint behaves to obtain a loose or controlled edge, thus demystifying much about watercolor painting. In the afternoon, we will discuss paint mixing both on the pallet and on your watercolor paper and end by exploring painting on wet and dry paper. You are encouraged to bring photos to paint.
November 2 & 3 - Lisa Ober - Realistic Still Life
Artist Lisa Ober, PSA, will teach a color-filled workshop on how to create beautifully detailed still life paintings in pastel. Lisa will take a step-by-step approach through her unique still life technique, from the first sketch to the finished piece using a photo reference (provided). Short demonstrations followed by plenty of class work time will ignite a passion for still life painting as students see their colorful paintings take shape. Participants will learn the skills needed to create believable and realistic still life paintings that are loaded with impressive details. Lisa will discuss developing keen observation skills, color selection, pastel application, and she will disclose her secrets for handling difficult surfaces such as glass or metal-giving special attention to this area.
Students will get plenty of personal attention, and Lisa's enthusiasm for still life painting is as contagious for the beginner as it is for the experienced painter. Regardless of favorite subject matter, students will leave with some hot tips for making their future paintings stand out in a crowd. If those in the class aren't already in love with still life painting, they will be by the end of this one!
