A monthly message from your Mayor and City Council
Hello Blue Springs, I hope you are having a great summer. As usual, there is a lot going on in our beautiful city and I hope you've had a chance to join in on some of the fun.
Our fantastic men and women of the Blue Springs Police Department are once again doing an amazing job reaching the community's youth. This summer they are hosting two sessions each of Girls on Fire and Life Sports summer day camps and both have been filled to the max. If your child missed this year, be sure and sign them up for next year's camps. Its a must do!
Summer is here, which means high temps, lots of water fun, and of course, construction. We've got several road milling and overlay projects happening throughout the City, so please, use caution, drive slowly and take detours when you can.
As always, I hope you enjoy this latest edition of Blue Springs News Happenings Around Town!

Police Department hosts summer camps for area youth
In June, the Blue Springs Police Department hosted the Girls on Fire Camp for girls in 6th through 12th grades.
The Girls on Fire Camp addresses the unique set of challenges facing young girls by encouraging healthy relationships, discipline, self-esteem, and health and wellness.
I had the honor of presenting a donation to the Girls on Fire Camp out of my Mayor's Fund to continue to enhance this much-needed community program.
The Blue Springs Police Department also hosts Life Sports, a free summer day camp for boys age 11-14 who are residents of Blue Springs or attend the Blue Springs School District. This is a great opportunity for middle school boys to interact with members of the Blue Springs Police Department through team sports and daily group discussions on life-skills, character and sportsmanship.
I also had the privilege of presenting the Life Sports Camp with a donation from my Mayor's Fund so that this program can continue to positively impact the young boys in our community.

Burrus Old Mill fun continues
It may have rained on our ribbon cutting for the Burrus Old Mill renovations last month, but this park and splashpad has been a hit with our residents. We are so happy you are enjoying the new park features brought to you by the voter-approved Dedicated Parks Sales Tax.

Downtown Gateway/Blue River Dental construction continues
In Downtown Blue Springs the Gateway Arch on Main Street from 7 Hwy is moving along. The pillars have been installed. Downtown Alive says this project has been funded entirely through private donors and the installation is dependent on volunteer time, so they are hoping to see the final completion by October. And next to it, Blue River Dental is constructing the first “ground-up” new construction in Downtown since the 1980s. The facility will house Dr. Snyder and his staff with an anticipated opening date in early October.
