Boat Trip Review

Last Sunday a group of 21 ASC members hopped aboard the 40' Tricia Clark, Maine’s original puffin boat, for a fabulous trip to Petit Manan Island to view the Atlantic Puffins and many more sea birds. We were joined by Seth Benz, Bird Ecology Director at Schoodic Institute, who shared his wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm for this unique environment.

Mother Nature cooperated and we enjoyed a mostly sunny day and warmish temperatures on the water. Along with dozens of Puffins, we observed Common and Arctic terns, Wilson's Storm-Petrels, a Leach's Storm-Petrel, Razorbills, Surf Scoters, Common Eiders and their chicks, and several other species. The Petit Manan Lighthouse, built in 1857, is the second tallest lighthouse in Maine, standing at 119' tall. We hope we'll be able to offer this outing again next year!
