Bring up to 2 pieces of your artwork (finished or unfinished) to share with the group.
The first 15 minutes we will be social time, then we will go into sharing our artwork. If we have a very large group, you may only show one piece. You are welcome to attend even if you don't bring any artwork—feel free to join us.

Spend a few hours to be a part of our social art gathering with artists, friends and seniors! Share your project and make new friends.

Scratchboard Workshop
Old Murdock School

A Fun Filled Day of Scratching!
This 6-hour one-day workshop will provide an introduction to scratchboard materials, tools and techniques. We will explore scratchboard mark-making methods using a variety of tools, learn how to create different values, textures, and then plan and execute a scratchboard composition drawing. There are many tools used in this medium and Joe will explain how to use them all.
NOTE: Joe will be giving a FREE Scratchboard Demonstration that you will not want to miss. Are you curious about this relatively new medium? You may want to watch this live demonstration before you take Joe's workshop or just come and be curious about the process. Thursday, October 8th, 6 - 8 pm in the Art Gallery. It will be shown on the large TV screen.
All materials are included. No experience needed.
Bring your lunch, we can also place a pizza order. Bring some tight surgical gloves, small brush or cloth to keep things clean.

1st Workshop: Back to Basics or Refresher Saturday, July 11, 12 - 4 PM
For Starting or Refreshing Students, any age: Have you thought about trying watercolors, yet been overwhelmed by paint and paper choices, or thought it seemed too difficult to learn? Here’s a great Basics course, no art experience necessary, to start a successful journey learning to play with watercolors! We’ll introduce the supplies, (all will be provided to participate), and we’ll help to “demystify” types of paints, palettes, brushes and papers. Handout notes for you to keep will be provided, and an experienced instructor will lead us through creating “swatches”, “sketches”, and a simple landscape or two! We’ll also cover the uses and reasons behind a “limited palette” approach and closely examine different grades and manufacturers of watercolor paints… pans or tubes? We’ll cover all of your questions!
2nd Workshop: Explorations-Stage 1 Saturday, July 25, 12 - 4 PM
For Starting or Intermediate Students, any age: Many students of watercolor have described their frustrations in “letting go and let the process”! All of us want to have fun, exploding colors but end up with muddied effects. We’ll learn together how to make our paints work; how to enjoy our process, how to create using transparent yet still very vibrant colors! It can all be easier than you imagined! We’ll cover all the questions and demystify the “rules” to letting it all “flow” yet learning the strategies to avoid an overworked or unhappy piece. Emphasis will be on dry vs wet techniques, layering and glazing, developing a plan for our painting.
3rd Workshop: Explorations-Stage 2 Saturday, August 8, 12 - 4 PM
For Starting to Intermediate and Advanced Students, any age: Watercolor paints, by nature, are transparent; but have you struggled to express or mix your neutrals as it pertains to the whole composition? Problems with a background, or with harmonious colors? Want to make sure that your choice of palette will “pop”? We’ll learn together how to make our neutrals work for our composition; how to use and evaluate the choices of “out of tube” greys and make it valuable to each individual expression. Emphasis will be on color wheel and understanding complementary colors, triads, splits.
4th Workshop: Explorations-Stage 3 Saturday, August 22, 12 - 4 PM
For Starting to Intermediate and Advanced Students, any age: If you’re up to achieving the ultimate challenge and freeing yourself as an artist, then please come play with us for our “Stage Four” in watercolor paints! We’ll be working on challenging watercolor collaboration pieces, executed by all in the class; outcomes will be “to be determined”. Do you love a challenge, and might you be able to live with the outcomes? Watercolor explorations, the use of abstract and composition techniques, use of textures and knowledge of pigments will be tested in this team-inspired challenge! Very large format papers, very expressive painting techniques? Bring your very best to contribute to these paintings and have a blast of fun in the process!! We’re truly living and experiencing “outside of the box” in our joint ventures.

Art enthusiasts, garden lovers, and anyone seeking a unique collaborative celebration of our region’s beauty are invited!
Saturday July 11 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, the Jaffrey Civic Center will be hosting its fifth annual Artist & Garden tour. The tour will include sites in Rindge, Jaffrey, and Richmond, and Peterborough New Hampshire; areas that are renowned for their picturesque landscapes and artistic spirit. The JCC invites visitors to embark on an artist and garden tour that promises to delight the senses and nourish the soul. The tour takes you through a curated selection of privately owned gardens, with each beautiful location hosting artists creating work en plein air.
On Sunday July 19, there will be a Pop-Up exhibit sale featuring the works created at the event at the Jaffrey Civic Center from 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm on our front patio (weather permitting). Your purchase through Square will automatically add you to the list, you do not need a physical ticket. The purchase of a ticket will include a map of the locations and some other fun goodies for you to enjoy which must be picked up at the JCC the morning of the tour.

The Jaffrey Civic Center is a 501(c)3 nonprofit cultural facility founded in 1966. Our summer-favorite showcase is back! Artists brought us the single piece they wanted to exhibit most for this annual favorite. The result? Gallery walls and pedestals packed with something to see with every glance. Experience jewel-toned florals, colorful landscapes, needle-felted birds, a clown-inspired vase, and much, much more.
Prizes will be awarded by Nikki Silva, Gallery and Exhibitions Coordinator at the Jean McDonough Arts Center, at the public reception. Entry to the event is free and open to all, with a cash bar available.
Following the reception, the One will be on view through August 23 during gallery hours: Wednesdays through Sundays, each day from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM.

James Dye: The Void, the Wheel, and the Monster
On View through September 13, 2026
James Dye uses a painstaking and detailed ink drawing technique to create images of mysterious narratives. His imagery is deeply informed by symbols inspired by mythology, religion, psychology, and the history of art and architecture. Dye’s work tells stories – both personal and universal – about the terrors and wonders of the struggles between chaos and order, light and dark, and existence and oblivion. Dye was the First Prize Winner of our 89th Regional Exhibition of Art & Craft.

Call and Response: Kindred

The theme of FAM’s annual Call and Response collaboration with ArtsWorcester is Kindred. The most common definition of kinship is family. Families can be biologically connected; they can also be found and forged in love and friendship. In fact, sometimes the deepest connections are formed through mutual experiences or shared beliefs. Joint pursuits such as shared interests, hobbies, or passions are also fertile ground to establish strong relationships. The ten ArtsWorcester artwork selections, in combination with ten from FAM’s permanent collection, are representative of all types of kinship.

Dino Trail Week* – Dinosaur Footprints at Barton Cove: History and Geology Walk
Saturday, July 11, 1–2 p.m.
Join Sarah Doyle and a guest geologist/paleontologist for a leisurely walk around Barton Cove in Gill, MA. Learn about the role of this site in the 19th-century discovery of fossilized dinosaur footprints when the property was owned by Roswell Field, a local farmer and businessman who was an early discoverer of the tracks. Dress for the weather, wear sturdy shoes, and bring water. Consider enjoying a picnic before the walk. The trails are not difficult but are rough in spots and covered in tree roots. Meet at the picnic tables at the Barton Cove Campground Day Use area on Barton Cove Road in Gill, MA. The walk is less than 1 mile long. For adults and children over 12 years old. A French / Breton Jam Session

An informal group of musicians gathers to play the enchanting traditional dance music from France and Brittany, commonly known as bal folk. Join us inside the Center for drop-in family-friendly activities and crafts all about how animals keep cool, including a story about splooting squirrels. What can we learn from animals during the heat of summer? What’s your plan to keep cool? Come on in and chill out and make your own Flat Squirrely to take on cool adventures and consider painting a scene with acorn cap ink. For ages 4 and up including youth and adults.

This monthly dance occurs the 3rd Friday of every month, at the Montague Common Hall at 34 Main Street in Montague, MA.
Swing Dance Lesson is 7:00-8:00PM
Live music provided by the Butterfly Swing Band is 8:00-10:00PM
$20 for dance and lesson, $15 dance only

Make Art at Main Street Studios

Do you get inspired by fellow artists? Would the company of other creatives motivate you to work on an idea or abandoned project?
Come to Main Street Studios on Tuesday evenings. We have plenty of work space for you to set up with your writing, painting, knitting, etc.
We will socialize for a half hour-ish and then have a quiet hour or two to do the work. If you are inclined to share at the end of the evening - or the end of the summer, you are welcome to do so. But that is not required.
Main Street Studios has coffee/tea/water and maybe a few snacks. There are also options for delivery if you want to order dinner.
The point of this evening is to have fun and employ a little gentle peer pressure to kick aside those creative blocks. If you have any questions, send us a message or leave a comment in the event. You can also email studios@fitchburgculturalalliance.org.

The Worcester Art Museum’s studio art classes offer accessible learning experiences for all ages and levels.
Express your creativity and discover new skills and media in these art-making workshops. The Museum offers online, in-person, and off-site learning opportunities that cover a variety of subjects and media.
In-person classes are held either in the galleries or in the Museum’s studios. Online classes are taught through Zoom and are encrypted and secure. Teens are welcome to join online adult classes.

Call for Exhibitors - Art in the Park 2026

The Monadnock Area Artists Association's Art in the Park outdoor art show is now accepting artists applications for its 68th Annual Show to be held in Ashuelot River Park, West Street, Keene, NH on Labor Day Weekend, Saturday and Sunday, September 5 & 6, 2026 from 10 am – 4 pm both days.
Online registrations for all artists! The Requirements and Application Forms are available on the Monadnock Area Artists Association website.
Fees: MAAA members, $100, non-members fee $150. For artists interested in sharing a booth, fees are listed in the application. Please complete the registration form and payment online. Please note: Fees are non-refundable. The deadline for applications is: August 15, 2026
Exhibitors are required to have their work on display both days from 10 am – 4 pm, rain or shine. Artists must be present at their booth during show hours. Exhibitors provide: tents, weights, display systems, and original artwork. No nudes due to the City of Keene regulations for Art in the Park.
Media accepted for Display: (1)Water-Media (watercolor, acrylic, gouache), (2)Oil, (3)Pastel, Charcoal, (4)Pen and Ink, Original Printmaking, and Colored Pencil, (5)Sculpture, Mixed Media, and Collage, (6) Photography/Digital Art. Judges will award Cash Prizes in these Six Categories:

We strongly recommend that you include a digital image related to the news as well as your website address & links to any venues. Image filenames should include the name of the artist and the work. Please post your press releases online whenever possible and submit a link.
Submission deadline is the 23rd of each month for publication on the 1st of the following month.
Inclusion of items/announcements is always at the discretion of GALA, but inclusion of submissions from non-members is limited to information deemed to be of benefit to GALA members.
