104th Birthday Party for Steam Locomotive 40
 
On Saturday, July 26, the Nevada Northern Railway will celebrate the 104th birthday of Steam Locomotive 40! Festivities start at 11:00 a.m. with free speeder rides and 
while supplies last, complimentary birthday cake, champagne, mimosas and sparkling cider. 

 

At 1:00 p.m., the Regular Steam Excursion is scheduled, followed by the "Restoration Rails Steam Train" at 6:30 p.m.,

featuring a behind-the-scenes tour with Nevada Northern Railway Executive Director, Mark S. Bassett. The tour will highlight seven artifacts restored and featured on the History Channel's smash hit, "American Restoration." Concessions on board will include beer, soft drinks and snacks. Tickets for both train rides along with more information, can be found at www.nnry.com. 

 

Ever want to be the engineer? Check out the "The Firecracker 100 - 100 Hot Deals!" This auction will run until August 2, 2014, with proceeds going to Nevada Northern Railway in order to support this National Treasure!

ESPN "FRIDAY NIGHT FIGHTS" TO TELECAST FALLON FIGHTS 

 
ESPN "Friday Night Fights" has "come a callin'," telecasting Fallon Fights: Rural Rumble 14 live August 8 from the Churchill County Fairgrounds in Fallon, Nevada. Six-foot-six-inch Chinese heavyweight and Olympic Silver-medalist Zhang Zhilei makes his professional debut at the event. Zhilei is a member of the Dynasty boxing organization founded by Dino Duva, and Terry and Tommy Lane, sons of Nevada's legendary boxing referee and Boxing Hall of Fame member Mills Lane. The fights are announced by the famed voices of ESPN boxing's Teddy Atlas and Todd Grisham.

The Eureka Opera House

 

The colorful Eureka Opera House is a "must see" when traveling Pony Express Territory. This historic opera house was built on the ashes of the Odd Fellows Hall, destroyed by the great main street fire of August 1879. It has always served as a gathering place for the people of Eureka, and has been the site of entertainment of all types as well as the annual Nob Hill Fire Company Masquerade Ball held every year from 1880 until well into the 1900's.

 

In 1990 Eureka County acquired the structure and began a three-year restoration. The building received the 1994 National Preservation Honor Award after being reopened on October 5, 1993. Today the Eureka Opera House is a full service convention center and Cultural Arts Center. The building is used for conventions, meetings, and community functions as well as cultural presentations.
