The arrival of the month of July signifies that it is time for the annual Maumelle Fourth Fest, a City sponsored event. Activities will start at 4:30 pm on July 4th with a parade along Millwood Circle and Club Manor Drive, ending at Lake Willastein. Children should bring a bag or sack to collect candy that is tossed during the parade. The second annual Cardboard Boat Race is scheduled to begin at 5:30 pm. Come cheer your friends to a victory or a dramatic sinking. The complete schedule of the day's activities is on the City's website and in this newsletter. All of the events except the parade will take place at Lake Willastein. Come celebrate with your friends, families, and neighbors, and don't forget to bring a blanket or lawn chair.
The events will conclude around 10:00 pm after the fireworks display.
With the extreme temperatures we are experiencing, the Dowell Naylor Aquatic Center, located at the Jess Odom Community Center, is a great place to find some relief from the summer heat. Additionally, there are swim lessons, a "Girly Girl Camp," a "Survivor Camp," and several other day camps, offered through the Parks and Recreation Department.
The greatly anticipated opening of David's Burgers has arrived! The first burgers were served at lunch on June 25th. Please support our newest restaurant, as well as the other eateries in Maumelle. Please remember to "Shop Maumelle," whenever possible!
Water rates discussions will be ongoing at both City Council meetings in July - July 6th and July 20th at 6:00 pm. A feasibility study is currently being conducted by Central Arkansas Water (CAW) to consider the possibility of a consolidation between CAW and Maumelle Water Management. The study should be completed by September 2015.
This newsletter's primary purpose is to help you stay informed about events in Maumelle and what city officials and city departments are doing. Also, don't forget that the monthly City Council meetings and Planning Commission meetings are open to the public. I encourage you to attend and hear firsthand the decisions that your elected officials are making on your behalf.
