Everyone seems to be talking about the need for affordable housing these days. According to a new report by the California Housing Partnership, โ€œDue to declining state and local funding, production of affordable homes has dropped by almost 9,000 units, (38%) in the last year.โ€

But the story is different here locally. At Nevada County Habitat for Humanity we have solid support from our county and regional public institutions, corporate sponsors, ReStore customers, and individual donors. All of this prompts one response from our team โ€“ incredible gratitude.

Together, with your support, weโ€™re making a difference here in Nevada County. Thank you for your love and support for this important cause.

Local Business In-Kind Donation Appreciation

โ€Š

As we near towards the finish line on our 45th Habitat house, we want to express our gratitude: A BIG THANK YOU goes out to Aaron Schroeder, owner of Independent Solar and Electric, (located in Smartsville) for his generous help with the home solar system and installation. Our friends at Good Sun, a local solar non-profit, made this donation possible by organizing it and introducing us to Aaron. Additionally, Steven Sullivan the Branch Manager at local wholesaler, Platt Electric Supply (located at 10662 E Bennett Rd, Grass Valley) donated the parts for the solar on Angela's house. Awesome teamwork all around!

Thank you so much for supporting Nevada County Habitat affordable home building. We are able to accomplish this work and make a big impact for our community because of business partners like you!

Construction Update

โ€Š

Finishing Touches at Angelaโ€™s house!

Floors, cabinets, trim, and fixtures are mostly all in. The porch is coming along nicely, and all the scaffold is finally down and removed. The HVAC system is done and operational, as is the solar. Both bathrooms are functional, and most of the finish electrical is installed and working.

Whatโ€™s next: Now begins the long tally of punch-list items. Some of the most significant being: clean up and grade dirt around house, clear property of Habitat material and equipment, smoke alarms and fire inspection, finish front porch, (the roof and gutters included), solar inspection, paint the exterior doors, touch ups, kitchen counter top install, stair railing, install remaining hardware/fixtures in bath and elsewhere, build a rear electrical panel platform to meet PG&E code, and all of other small details to make the house complete and ready for a final inspection!

Pictured: Volunteers working on the front porch. Our meal providers happily serving up some nutritious lunch for construction crew.
