Willamette River Fest
This Weekend!

Sunday, July 30th | 1PM - 10PM

Cathedral Park Waterfront


Come celebrate the Lower Willamette, and connect with our awesome river.

Alder Creek Kayak and Canoe will allow the first signed up participants to get out on the water to experience the river first hand with expert guidance. Novices should sign up for the first paddle at 1:30pm that includes instruction.

The Movie in the Park showing at dusk is Upriver: A Film for the Willamette, that will have the river and Forest Park as a scenic backdrop

St. Johns Neighborhood Association board elections are fast approaching* and the board wants you to think about joining the board! Elections are coming up in October.


  • Are you concerned about what impact increasd traffic has on pedestrian safety in the neighborhood?


  • Does new construction and St. Johns development have you more interested in Land Use issues?


  • Has the present housing crisis encouranged you to advocate for affordable housing and tenant rights?

On the Agenda:
  • Community members have put pressure on PBOT for their recent reductions to the St. Louis/Fessenden improvement plan. Rich Newlands, Project Manager with PBOT will come with updates.
  • The new Central Hotel development designs have been drafted. Several community architects will present their input and concerns about the concept drawings.
  • SALT (Safety and Livability Team) will speak about other Land Use Updates and ongoing efforts to improve safety on our roads and in our community.
National Night Out in St. Johns
Double the Fun!

St. Johns takes back the night--twice! Apart of the annual National Night Out summer block party series, come out for 2 evenings of spectacular neighborhood focused fun!

  • Tuesday, August 1st - 6PM to 9PM - Join the St. Johns Center for Opportunity at St. Johns Wesleyan Church (8850 N St. Louis) for a community pot luck and live music. All are encouraged to prepare and share a dish that celebrates your identify.
  • Friday, August 4th - 3PM to 8PM - Head over to Cathedral Gardens (8652 N Swift Way) for a Community BBQ. In addition to delicious food, they'll have games, raffel prizes, face painting and more.

EVERYONE is welcome to both community events! Can't wait to see you there.
Emergency Preparedness Tip of the Month

SUPPLIES & GEAR:

  • Box of granola or power bars – 1 per person
  • 6 rolls of paper towels, 3 boxes of facial tissue
  • NOAA Alert Weather
  • Radio Box of N-95 or N-100 face masks – 1 per person
  • Make or obtain a twin-bucket emergency toilet (two, 5 gallon buckets, with seats - keeping solid and liquid waste separate

TASKS:

  • Check to see if stored water has expired and needs to be replaced
  • Put an extra pair of eyeglasses in the supply container
  • Find out about your workplace disaster plans and the disaster plans at your children’s schools
**Every six months, check to see if your stored food and water needs to be replaced.**

Portland Festival Symphony will be at Cathedral Park on Saturday, July 29th! This FREE community concert organized by Portland Parks & Recreation will start at 6:30 p.m. Grab your lawn chairs and picnic blankets!!!

The Willamette River Festival is a celebration on the waterfront with live music, food carts, an environmental fair, live birds from Audubon, live fish displays, dance troupes, walking tours & more.
